The front drivers side is sitting way down on my beetle, causing the wheels to scrub excessively- it has an adustable lowered king and link pin setup, anyhows I initially thought it could have been a worn shockie, so I pulled them off and they seemed okay- then I sought some advice and people suggested that maybe some torsion leaves had broken which may happen with lowered front ends..
So I venture into the unknown and strip the front end hoping to find some broken leaves and damn it they appear okay. So I go about checking things and now I suspect it was the shockie in the first place- as it didnt offer much resistance when trying to compress it (I am sure it did the first time) Anyways will now fit some new shockies- but am not too confident that that is all it will be.. anyone got any ideas, whilst I have the thing stripped ???
Thanks in advance
Peter

shockies dont hold the car up do they? Just dampen the suspension travel yea?
Car with crook shockies = bouncey not low?
i find my bug is lower on the driver side when i sit in the drivers seat. hope that helps peter
nick 😁
Hmmmm thanks Nick- hope you arent enjoying the cuisine too much over there or that Rat will be scraping more tham Herbie.
I think I will change the leaves around and try some spare torsion arms in case one is bent- but there cant be a great deal else..
Oh and if you are missing a front end when you get back - it wasnt me..

Have you pulled the leave springs completely out of the torsion tube ???
You will probally find there broken in the middle
if you need another set of torsion bars i have some but i am sure mine are ball joint ---not certain they are the same??????
Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.
yeah, wouldn't be the shockies, cause they only dampen, and hte torsion bars inside the beam are the suspension. so the bars have me suspicious.

69' baja: kombi box, thing spindles, irs, disc front, type 3 rear drums, 2 inch lift kit, 31x10 rears. 👍
New engine in process: 94mm p&bs, 74mm C/w chomol Crank, 35.5x39 SP heads, turbo. Wierd combo, hopeful torque monsta!
I'd put a jack/stand under the centre of the front beam, and see if the rear is sitting level. Your problem could be in the rear as that is where most of the weight is.

Yep have pulled them right out and there are no obvious breaks and it appears that one end is brazed- is this normal- I have never had anything to do with them before. I have a spare front end which isnt lowered so I will use the leaves and arms and see how that goes.
The leaves look a little bent though- will do some more checking and get some photos happening.
Thanks for the brainstorming..
