Just finished fixing a wireing issue in my sisters bug and noticed that when the car is idling the Gen light is on. As soon as I give a bit of revs it goes out, then when back to idle it comes back on.

The belt is on nice and tight, so its not slipping. What else could cause this? Warn bushes? Crappy Gen? PS its a 6volter.

My 6volt did the same, just raise the idle a tad.

Gen light is a great way to set idle speed whithout a meter on old cars. So long as engine is in a good state of tune, you back off idle until light comes on then slowly ajust up until the point where it just starts to flicker and goes out, best done with headlights on.

Matt.

Thanks for the tips guys. The light was just flickering so must only be a tad off. Should I wait till the engine is nice and warm and running smoothly?

Yep, you should always tune an engine when it is at operating temp.
Cheers.

the battery may not get fully charged if you just idle it, It might be low ...a run should fix it up...recent lesson learned.
