Anyone ever thought of converting their dub to 24 Volt? Sounds crazy, but the way electrics are going...12 Volt might become the old 6V or not?

Maybe its just my arse talking...:bounce

I hear rumors that the Japs are playing with 120V AC in cars - along with single wire systems where every electrical part has its own id code that is send through the power wire... interesting stuff

I can see the benifits in doing a conversion to 24 volt, but the difficulty in converting starters, generators/altinators, gauges etc might outweigh the benifit... but still an interesting idea 🙂

SWS has been used in some jap cars for several years now (Maxima/pulsar ???) remember seeing the ads on TV...What benefit do you see in converting to 24 volt???

same benifits that you get from converting from 6 to 12 volt.

the higher voltage means that there will be lower current drain to operate the same (or similar device) - this also means less voltage drop through connections/fuses/etc.

But 6 volt systems sucked for the main part, the benefit of a 24 volt system you think would be minimal compared to 12volt....some trucks/machinery is 24 volt as well as busses. I could see them going A/C as it might be a step forward but not 24 volt D/C.

as stated above..... 24 volt gives you the advantage of reduction in wire sizing as the current is decreased. disadvantage is getting the equipment rebuilt to suit the 24v. it would only be an advantage in newer cars coz of all the wiring they use... the simple electrical circuits in beetles would not warrant the change.
see.... air and water do mix 😉
