Hey guys,

I remember coming across a website a while ago, who made all sorts of vw fibreglass panels, ranging from split beetle rear window sections that could be grafted into a later beetle, to fibreglass replacement guards for type 3's.

I now can't find the website and am interested in getting some fibreglass front and rear guards for my pre-1970 notchback.

I know they wont be cheap but I'm considering buying them.

Are there any other suppliers of these guards?

Lastly, as they're likely to be an overseas order, is there anyone else wanting some of these guards who want's to split shippiing and taxes?

Cheers,

Steve

I'm currently talking to a fibreglass body builder with a view of providing him some early and late guards for glass reproduction. He also suggested bonnets and beavers for those wanting to adapt early to late bodies... I guess he wants to ensure if he thinks it's viable that he'llhave a wider market.

I'd expect there would be a fair demand as good early type 3 guards are almost impossible to find, and fibreglass is a good alternative.

I'd for one be very interested.

I also know of a fibreglasser who can make duplicates of panels but haven't approached him about making some guards as he's kind of unreliable.

Please keep us posted re: your guy.

Cheers,

Steve

I think you may find US suppliers are hesistant to ship such large items long distances overseas. Some of them won't even ship from the east coast to the west coast and vice versa. That was one of the things I noticed about that company in their ads in Hot VWs in years gone by.

yeah thats true..and even if they were willing to ship, the shipping costs would be a killer

If your interested, I have a mould for early type 3 fenders the only thing is they don't have head light buckets. If I was to get 5 people that want a set, I would make them up. Cost would be $220 ea.

The mould is a copy of the standard fender with all the mounts.

I do some where have notch rears as well, but I can't find them right now

That's cheaper than what the company I have been talking to would do them for!

thats only if I can do 5 sets or more. I could get the glassey to do one set but it would cost to much to get him to do it.

Yep I'm certainly interested..shame about the headlighht buckets though. I guess ones from old guards could be grafted in?

yeah....I looked into it a long time ago, it just makes it imposable to get it out of the mould. what I did was hand mould a glass bucket in, as the lip for the light is there and it only to stop the dirt getting to the back of the light. you could run without it

fair enough, completely understand. It's amazing what shapes they can still eject from the mould anyway.
