Hey,
I know pop tops are always going to be rattly and noisy, but is there anything i can do to quiet it down?

Any bump/bumpy road i drive on it rattles like crazy... really annoying.

I'm not sure how it works, but are all the joints/pivots in good order?

We have two campers with pop tops, a 1975 and a 1967, each with different roof mechanisms. Neither of them rattle much at all, except for really big bumps.

What type of pop top mechanism do you have?

Is your roof tightly held down? Both our roofs have 6 tie downs to hold them tightly in place. Are all the nuts and bolts tightened up, are all the springs present and tight.

There is no reason pop tops have to be rattly and noisy, we just did Melb to Brissy and back in the 67, and the loudest things were the wind and the whine of the reduction hubs.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.

I think they all do it,maybe check you straps on the inside as they may have streched over the years and are not holding it down tight?

Nope.. they don't all do it.. mine fits like a glove and is perfectly silent. 🙂

Edward, try doing up the straps a little tighter... they may have worked loose or not been tight enough to start with.

My bus, being a far superior Trakka 😂, has four 1920's style hood catches to secure the poptop... standard equipment on this type of conversion.

Yopu might consider getting and fitting a set of these to the poptop in place of the straps, as they hold the roof down snuggly and there is no way for them to loosen. 👍

cheers guyz. Yep theres lots of mini hatches, bits and pieces which may be causing the noise. I was just wondering if it was common and there was a quick fix but obviosuly not.

I may not have to put up with it much longer tho. Had a letter left under my wiper from some1 interested in buying my kombi even tho displays nothing about being for sale. Im going to give the bloke a call tomoro arv and see how much money he's got :-)

cheers guyz!

Mine used to have elastic tiedowns, it used to rattle, and even popped itself up in high winds!!!

I put in some strong hook'n'clip things that clamp it down tight. Now it is held secure and it doesn't rattle.

You just need something to hold it down hard and tight.
