And I have to say, having been a working mum, a stay at home mum, and a Partime working mum....I prefer to be a mum. How much and how hard I work is neither here nor there...well...maybe to the boss....but so long as I have a few more days left can give my kids heaps of love, its all good!
My only wish, when I die is this...that my kids KNOW i love them. Thats it...nothing more. I dotn care if the coffee was freshly ground and made. I dont care if the cakes were bought or baked. And the kids dont either. Kids just want hugs, love and enuf freedom to get messy in mud...

She was trying to explain that her thing was more that women who wanted to work shoudl have equal pay. Not that they should be forced to work. Or that the government should make the ecomony we live in so expensive woman who would have rathered raised their kids are forced to work because of the family budget now being unable to meet the needs.
That asking for equal pay should not have done that.
She said she had hopoed that if woman were being paid equally to their counterparts....if the 'glass ceilings' at the workplace were no longer in existance...then the family could choose WHICH of the parents went to work. not that they both HAD to work.
She also went on to say the infamousy the book created wasnt something she had wanted.
So the great feminist wasnt really such a big womans libber...she wanted to be more an equaliser..She felt no sex was greater than the other. that we all had to co-exist together.
Best bit...she was kinda drunk on a midday show (thought it was with ray martin) when she finally came out and said all this.

Dont get the wrong idea im not a male chauvenist (cant spell though) I just think she (Germaine) caused more damage for the female equality cause than good. She was and still is a bit nutty! It was women like Ita Buttrose that really got the sensible ball rolling and actually proved that they could do better than the men.

well, personally i give a standing ovation to all those women who took at the cause, explicitly or implicitly, successfully or not - they are the reason that so many of us women no longer need to PROVE anything... we are able to make decisions on how we live our lives without needing to explain ourselves. no matter what choices we make, at least there are choices these days. Hallelujah!
(and in making that statement, i am in no way saying that feminism is dead or obsolete..... the struggles of women, anyone with half a brain has to admit, are still struggles that go on each and every day, in our country and around the world).

and thorun...im with u...the fact that i am now paid the same as the blokes...without having to prove i can do the work (plus twice as much), all the while wearing makeup and stocking (caue back then u were 'nakid' if u didn't.
I like the idea that as a single mum, when i go to interviews...i am no longer asked 'how the kids will cope' (which happened once...) or ask in return "did u ask the last candidate that, since HE was also married with young kids. Keep in mind I will be checking, since he's my cousin?'
and robo...yes...we think ur chauvenistic....but i think ur mostly just stating what alot of guys think. That it would be good do ocaasionally have the lines of responsibility within a married clearly drawn...that way we all know what we need to be doing. IE i clean, make sure dinner is on the table, the kids are fed, homework is done and drive the girls to their sporting events & all kids to training. Dad takes the Boys to the sporting events, fixes the cars, makes sure all the bills are paid, and mum has enough in the account for shopping. Oh, he also takes out the garbage, maintains the lawn and works out the descipline for the kids.
If we knew who did what, from the start....life would prolly be heaps easier.
In my house, it seems to be based on who hates the job the least. that day...😂
and for the record...i sometimes wish for a return to the 'olden values' too. sad but true. I dont wanna deal with the bills, lawn or maint the cars. I just wanna hop in my bug and have it go. I like being at home with my babies...helping with homework and assignments. Taking care of them when their sick. keeping a clean house. mmmm glen 20 ...and rose oils. And I love hugging the babies...even if some are bigger and hate it im sure. 🙂
