Guys, my poor old box whines in 2nd gear, not under load, only when you back off or change down.

What is the likely cause of this?

Thanks.

I love 242HP sleepers. 🤪

How many sets of lights does it take a $229k Carrera S to learn? 😂 UPDATE: Cayman S, M3, B4 now added to the list.

Hi
could be a bearing...
can't be the differential??
only in 2nd gear... maybe a bearing on the way out?

You really need to take the plug out of the bottom of the gearbox and check for steel filings on the plug..
A bit of a pain having to put the oil back in...

I read recently where 1303S {L} beetle gearboxes shouldn't be used with high powered engines.

this was because 3rd and 4th gear had finer teeth for less noise..
but were more likely to break with high power...

although this doesn't seem to be Your problem...

cheers
