If it does not sell I will part it out. I have reduced the price to save me the labour and someone else the cost of seals etc.

I had it dynoed when it was only 500 miles old so with a 5000rpm cap with the smaller venturis and prior to the merged headers and tuning it got 83RWHP with a torque curve that starts real low. I'd say tuned up properly it would easily give 95-100 hp.

I have the dyno sheet here somewhere. I'll try to find it.
The thing about this engine is due to the rod ratio (short rod length) it is very snappy down low and it makes good torque and hp at low revs. Thats why I said it would be a great street engine for a bus or bug. Lots of fun to drive. There are some AVDubbers that have been in this car and can vouch for this motor.

This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

Not trying to be smart but would you still get $5800 if you parted out the motor and sold everything to different folks? Just a question......

Cal what is the point of your question? Are you asking because you are interested in the parts?

I have receipts for parts and machining for more than I am selling the engine here. Whether I get that much for them as individual pieces is irrelevant.

I have dropped the price below that of the sum of the purchase price of the parts to entice a buyer to save me the time and labor of splitting the engine and selling the bits separately.

Those that have built these engines KNOW this is a very good price. Those that have not can keep searching for that $1500 race engine bargain.

If someone wants to discuss the vagaries of selling a complete engine as opposed to individual parts I suggest a new thread in general chit chat. Cal68 if that was your intention I will gladly add my constructive 2c worth to the thread.

Karmen if I answer yes or no to the question I can guarantee that this thread becomes a discussion of the pros and cons of the two and not one where people can ask questions to enable them to decide whether they would like to purchase or not. There is no offence intended or taken here, I just wish to put the tyre kicking to bed.

Having said that..
If the engine does not sell I will surely contact those that have responded on this thread or via U2U that have expressed interest in parts first before I advertise the parts back here and other forums.

BTW. I forgot to add that I would crate the engine up in ply on a pallet for the buyer and drop it to a freight place in Sydney as long as they are open on a Saturday. I also forgot to mention that I will install new flywheel and pushrod seals and oil pump and tappet cover gaskets to make it nice and fresh.

Hi Brendon,

Who built the engine?
Is it already leaking oil?
Were all the listed parts new when installed (receipts)?
When was it built?
How old are the carbs?
r,
James

I built the engine.
Weeps some oil on extended highway running (I like a spotless engine and I think it is not unreasonable for a buyer to expect the same).
All engine parts are new except for case, flywheel and rocker arms (I have receipts).
Engine was built in late 2004, car was first registered Feb 2005, engine was removed Easter this year (became my daughters first car with a stock 1600).
Dellortos are 86 models with rebuild kits. No wear in shafts (Dells have roller bearings).
