I spent most of saturday in the garage rearranging crap so that I could get my beetle out as it has been put out of the way for so long. Now I have a really dodgily put together floorpan, the oval is facing the right way, all panels have been pulled off of it, ready to do the pan swap so it can be put in storage for a few more years!
Sunday I took a trailer load of crap to the tip, only to have a tropical cyclone hit the moment I switched the ignition off. Sat in the car for 15 minutes before deciding it was never going to stop. Got soaked. Went home and loaded the car trailer with my daughters cubby house. Took it over to father in laws and unloaded. Bagged my daughter for not being able to go down the drivway on her razor scooter without braking. Showed her how its done, ran off the path, did a fish tail before the front wheel dug into the mud and I went arse over. Raced home to have belated fathers day with my old man. Back to father in laws to put up cubby house, in rain, using 240V screw gun. Hot priced favourite for darwin awards. Slipped and fell while carrying a wall. Bruised ribs on edge of concrete, cut whatever you call that bit of skin between thumb and forefinger (makes it hard to type). Got it all assembled apart from some cosmetic pieces. Went home had dinner asked my daughter to clear table for me since I worked for her all day in rain. "You werent doing it ALL day" Just like her mother.

Hi
Mucked around in the garage with my bug, got the motor in for the 1st time, made some adjustments to the removable rear apron. Had to work with door shut because the rain was blowing 1/2 way down the garage.
Steve
whats the story with the trailing arm? Whats it off? Is it alloy or painted silver? And how wide is the bloody track?

Spent saturday in mourning, spent Sunday croozing Jervis Bay and BBQing with a few Kombi Club and BWM folk in less than kosher weather.
Was a goodish crooze... but could have been better if it hadnt been for the rain. 🙄

Hi Chirs
They are 944 arms, they just about bolt on. Before fitting them I measured drum face to drum face on my 1303 which had type 3 rear drums, it measured 1405 mm when I fitted 1986 944 alloy arms it now measures 1490 mm face to face. The CV bolt flange is about 10 inches (5 inches per side) further out, but owing to the short 86 stub axle lenght I didint get a 10 inch increase in track.
Steve
steve the track is measured at center to center of the tyres so what is the differents betwwen the orignal track and the set up with your wheels and offset. Overall wideth will be wider but how much wider is the track.
cheers malcolm
saturday & sunday nightshift didn,t see much.

this is what I had to contend with. Its a tight fit putting a beetle in crossways, have to take bumpers off
🤓
I was working in the shop for the whole weekend... then watched a scary movie called "Event Horizon"... freaky, dude gets his chest cut open by some possessed nutcase whose eyes are ripped out, and opens the chest of the dude with a scaple and pizza cutter roller thing, while the dude is alive...
made a hell of a mess too

Hi Malcom
I only measured bolt to bolt face for a referance, the wheels I fit will be made with a negative offset so I dont expect to have any track increase at all. But if I did have a track increase this what the NSW RTA say;
Where non original axle or suspension crossmember components are fitted, the offset of the wheel in relation to the axle or stub axle assembly used shall not be increased by more than 12.5mm each side of the vehicle based on the specifications of the axle components used. If an axle assembly is shortened then the track width limit is taken as the axle manufacturers original track dimension, less the amount the assembly has been narrowed, plus 25mm.
Chris, I know what its like to have a small garage, not much fun.
Steve
steve same as Victoria 25mm overall for IRS .the bigger the garage the more stuff the wife puts in it
Stop Hi Jacking this Post Steve
Piss off you moderator nazi
a new weekend, and bloody fine weather.
Today was the coolest day. Now Im all fuzzy wuzzy inside. My oval is back where it belongs on a '56 pan. All the rat shit is out of it, I cleaned and admired my mint set of door trims... well, not a set as drivers door is missing. The only thing that spoilt it... I cant get the bloody bonnet open to align it properly. I think the old girl just wants to sit back and savour the new old pan moment without me playing with the bonnet. :thumb
lol... Yeah you can't ask too much of the old girl in one hit...
