The line that runs to the carb, what is it used for? what does it do? is it necessarily?

Just need to know, thinking of ideas of what to do in regards to the carb department (For the future of course). Hopefuly its not that necessarily, cause i don't want to be restricted just the the stock carby, although it does the job, for the moment.

Chris,
It's for the reducing valve inside the CV. You need it, full stop!

Go on over to www.vwar.org in the Tech section and look for the "Stock 34 Pict 3" topic. You can modify any non-semi auto carby to suit.

If it isn't connected your shifts/clutch operation will be hopeless and you won't be able to tame or adjust anything.

Enjoy

Hi Guys,
I've had heaps of problems with My small vacuum hose from My carburetor as its a Weber
and has too much vacuum...
I tried putting nails/screws inside the hose..
to try to lower the vacuum..
some worked Ok for a while...
I have finally found that a very small fuel filter [lawn mower type]
with a very small hole drilled in it,
has worked and has been on My beetle since its been on the road...
so using another carburetor or twin carburetors may have consequences..
although there usually is a way to use them..
it may take a while to find out how to get the control valve to work properly..

My small hose came off My carby one day, and it took about 15 seconds to disengage the clutch..

15 seconds is a long time when you have just pulled onto a single lane highway.. lol..
with engine revving... but not going anywhere...

cheers

Chris,
In that tech section on vwar, Cobey assissted fitting up a pair of Kads to a semi auto, and basically just drilled through to the venturi as there was no boss (unlike stocko Solex's). This is the only issue you'll really have if you run (like Damien & Lee) a non Solex single barrel carby.
Lee has a Brazilian Weber single barrell and Damien has a progressive two barrell (Is that still correct?) Weber.

Running a Baja, where you put the Control Valve is up to you as you have more choices with no sheet metal surrounding the donk.

Enjoy

When i'm changing gearboxes, I might drill another hole in My weber carburetor...
and have no clunking in reverse...

My Wife always thinks I've hit something when I touch the gearlever when its in reverse...
CLUNK...
the vacuum pipe I'm using was intended for the distributor I presume...

will do ctefeh, cheers buddy. I got the stock 30 pict, its good. so won't change it too soon, but if its not too much work on a stock 34, then will certainly contimplate. This is just a solex.
