Just wondering who has done their own DIY things on their VW's. Im talking stereo installs, custom dashs, roof racks, whatever.

Im especially interested in making my own roof rack for my square, so all pics and comments would be sweet

cheers

I pretty much did the entire resto of my ragtop (see members ride section) - custom dash, body mods, paint/panel, audio installation, mechanicals (except for gearbox and longblock assembly) etc.

I'm keen to make a rack at some stage as well so I'll be interested to see how you go! Good luck

ive slighty customised my Lbugs dash to fit a couple of oil gauges and modernise it abit

but im replacing all my gauges and adding a few extras (voltmeter, boost, a/f meter and shift light tach) plus i wanna make room for an in dash dvd
so im in the process of hacking up one of my Lbug dashs
heres a photoslop i did to try and decide how to lay it all out

i've also built a rear doof box to house 2 10" subs and 2 6x9s and all have there own enclosure

I added a mural ... a photo I took in Europe last year...

That to go with the night time cafe that opens most evenings in the back patio

and in the front, I cut a really big hole in the dash so Lara can come out and play....

Heres one of a private swimming pool that Indian made up for a Coke Ad a few years ago. Entry was via the large hole in the roof. Guess what, it leaks .... lol ...

My DIY:

That's my DIY... Custom dash to suit the RHD conversion I did, lights, paint etc etc... Still a work in progress but she turns heads nevertheless!!

Especially with the gothic babes in the Valley, don't know why.

the dash would look mint DUB74L, still old school but with a twist of new

im thinking about a fibreglass dash, using the old cracked one as a template

anyone have any tips on making roof racks?

the only part im unsure of is the fittings to hold it to the gutter

do you want it to look period or dont mind? best way is probably to find an old roofrack which already has feet, and hack it up/use it as a base for your own rack.
