Pretty sure this question was asked fairly recently. Do a search for the full details, but I'm pretty sure the short answer was no.

I've heard figures of up to 100,000km to recover the costs involved in an LPG conversion. I've read on the RACQ site that it takes 2.2 years if the average use is 30,000km per year and installation cost is $2000. This is at todays fuel prices. Very soon the govt is about to bring in more taxes on LPG (no wonder they are so keen on paying out rebates on your conversion!) When this happens it will take even longer to pay for itselfI dont think you will find anyone who can supply a system for a beetle for that money. The loss in power + the loss in economy (yeah its cheaper but having to stop and fill up more often would annoy me), not to mention that there isnt much room in a beetle to put a gas tank would be enough to turn me off.

Don't know why the givernment doesn't get behind diesel. In europe, the majority of cars I saw were diesel. You go alot further, plus you can make diesel from all sorts of things which would help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

Then you just answered your own question...the government would lose to much money if you /we didn't have to rely on fossil fuels. How much do you think they are missing out on just over ethenol and I'ts been around for years and only reciently been for sale at a cheaper price and more available!!! You can make diesel from all sorts of things...but in the UK for example it's illeagal to use these methods unless you pay/declare it for tax...I think little Johnny would get us as well, while he's still there...

I'm not suggesting we all start up our own back yard diesel plants. Even if the government gets their cut, at least we won't have to put up with huge hikes in petrol prices every time a bomb goes off in the middle east.
