We only got a TV late last year (after 5 years without). I've watched about 15minutes of Idol and I'm in 2 minds. I don't know whether I love it or hate it. As a classically trained music snob one part of me wants to dis it, but then it's so good to see young musos getting a real go at national exposure. I mean the Aussie Music industry definitely needed a kick start a few years back and it's done that but is it that good for the audience and the performers?
What do you all think?
I think the show is crap.Most of the people on it are also crap. I find other things to do with my time.....i rate it about the same as big brother...CRAP.👎

three top twelves... 36 idol finalists.
out of those twelve talented singers (yes, they are all talented, they are on the show for a reason) how many of their music careers are alive and well today?
one. shannon noll... and even then, he's been MIA for a while too.
i honestly believe that a lot of the contestants on idol have talent, and COULD have made it somewhere doin what they wanted to be doing... kasey donovan was an incubus loving, guitar playing rock goddess... but now she's locked into a pop idol contract where all she's achieved is a deadly award.
im picking machine to screw over the masses.

The thing that fascinates me about Idol is that during the auditions they invariably sing lousy modern songs really badly. I don't see where the judges see their talent, but it is there.
In the finals they sing oldies but goodies straight.
I enjoy the finals and squirm with embarrassement during the auditions.
Aust. Idol is utter crap:bounce. Reality TV is Shite:repuke. Real music is found in Pubs, performed by artists with passion for their craft. Not on some TV show aimed at 8 to 14 year olds who just happen to buy lame music put out by lame performers and marketed by huge record companies.:cussing

Guy Sebastian is internationally famous now, but hey, Idol is just a popularity contest designed for television. Another way of record companies swaying their audiences toward a generic bland and palatable musical diet so they can sell CDs on their label.
The singers don't pick their own songs, they pick songs from a list. People who make music will do so regardless of popularity or TV, and they will do it because it's in their blood. Occasionally one of these shows up on idol (sometimes with talent), and has to change their focus to "what do i have to do to be popular?" mentality. If Mark Holden tells them their song would never be played on radio, their music becomes instantly invalidated. This is doing nothing for music in this country, except for the 10 or so musicians who play on the show each week.
If Australia was like Scandinavia and had government subsidies for music venues so artists were paid properly and encouraged to play original music, then we would be better off. Also if radio stations had strict rules about a fair minimum Australian music content then we would be better off too.

The difference is this. When you watch TV the
other half can watch it with you. When you're on the net, its just you, a little room, a beer, and a whole world of entertainment.
Idol is GAY... its is reality TV in a classy wrapper and I detest reality TV. Idol, Survivor, Big Brother, The Biggest Loser... it all amounts to a pile of hot steaming dog shite. :puke

Rather than post a poll to vote your opinion, you should have posted a TXT number at 55c a pop - there's nothing more to it than that apart from the ad money it rakes in from the teen focused advertisers. They don't care if the 'product' that wins ever sells a record, but then they only have to sell 12 copies to make the top 100 these days.
