afternoon all...

I'm going to have a look at a notch in melbourne this weekend. it seems from the photos that it's in great condition, is on the 2nd owner and comes with original paperwork.

It's a 68 and the fella is asking the best part of 10 grand.

I'm curious to know what the price range of notches is at the moment.. what should you pay for ok, good, very good and minter?

of course tough for you to comment on this particular car without seeing the piccies, but I just wanted your thoughts on the topic in general.

thanks in advance... Anything in particular that I should be looking for? The seller might well use this forum, but I'm new here and I don't know the 'locals' yet..!!

Expect to pay anything from $500 to the price you've mentioned - and above in same cases.

For that momey you should be getting good paint, interior, no rust, recon motor (poss larger bore), and a bit of character. Earlies will always be a bit more expensive. May even get some accessories too.

For Ten Grand would have to be something very very special.About $5000 should and would buy a good one. I would sell Rocket for ten grand and throw in my slippers.

Equation for working out the reasonable price of a notch (early).

Samba price + mint fridolin price / split window beetle price x 7 / buyers date of birth = $X (and it's probably still over priced) 😁

White notch with black roof? looks like a real nice car from the photos (assuming its the same one) if you can verify the mileage is original it sounds like a very decent ride and for originality quite possibly worth what he's asking.

Its easy to send that on a type3 resto,
But if you want to buy a finished car that one looks good, from here.

Just my 10 cents worth

For 10K I would expect a one-owner car with immaculate original untouched factory paint and interior, original tyres, FSH and all owners manuals/paperwork in original immaculate condition and all be ready to go back into a museum

I agree, it's easy to spend this on a type 3 but it would have to be mint to justify the $$$. They are a brilliant car, they just don't seem to have the re-sale of other aircoolers.

Just my opinion/ observation.
For the record I LOVE mine!
