Going to be building a custom camping interior for my splitty - I want it to look good quality and to suit out needs but 'of its age' , if you know what I mean (no disco balls or dvd players).

Anyone know the best wood to use?

UK sites suggest Birch ply but i'm guessing there'l be some Aussie equivalent??? Any ideas where to source?

Just wondering if others out there have home-built interiors as well?

any marine ply. it was used by trakka from 1975, it will wear better then anything else, and can be stained to look very traditional. finish off the look by framing everything in hardwood internally and using simple catches.

Was given to understand that 'any old ply' wont do... particularly bunnings

I've made some calls and recjkon Marine ply is the go... even if a bit pricy

Any ideas for nice period looking trim and finishing bits?

Hey samblers
Exterior grade ply is essentially the same as marine - same glue/wood, only difference is that there may be some holes in some of the plies in the exterior stuff (ie holes from knots may not be filed). Its a bit cheaper. You don't need to go to marine grade - its no more or less hard wearing or water repelent etc...

Yeah, I've realised that now... basically 'marine' ply has two "A" grade faces (i.e. on both sides), whereas 'exterior' ply has like an A grade and a C grade, so you'd have the A grade facing outwards.

Where would I go to buy nice chrome trim bits for edging and stuff? This is all new to me
