Who can recommended a contact for someone that can do some welding and re-surfacing to my comp eliminator heads ?

I want to increase the size of the combustion chambers, so i figure the edge of where the barrel normally sits can be built up with alloy TIG weld, and then the combustion chambers re-surfaced to a new height.

I want to add another 0.130" for about 3mm from the outside edge of where the 94mm barrel normally site.

Cheers,

That is a lot of weld Ian.
There has to be another way.
If it were mine I would get a piston with a dish in it , like a type 4 or Wasser piston,
and keep the deck nice and tight.
We ordered some CP forged ones thru Quantum in bris.
Or shout your self some longer barrels and have them machines to get the extra 3mm.
Welding the head will cost you more in machining(seats too!) than what the barrels cost
and the head may go soft.
Rodney has those long barrels in stock I think.

Yeah destroying the heat treating was one of my concerns as well. I can achieve the 0.130" deck height that I need easily with the barrels that I am using no problems, but I was hoping to get more combustion into the head chamber and less in the top of the barrel.

Tighter squish would mean less chance of cracking a barrel and an overall better engine.

Type 4 pistons? Don't they use a larger gudgen pin? I think aircooled.net sell a set for type 4 that use 22mm gudgen pins so they can convert to a chevy rod at the same time... I'll have to look into that.

As for the wiseco's who's the best option for getting a set of them easily in australia?

The other thought I had was what about makign some head gaskets out of 0.030" stainlless steel sheet metal. My skyline has a 3 layer stainless head gasket and one of their marketing points for it is that it handles heat a lot better than other metal gaskets.

Cheers,
Ian

Yes type 4 pistons use a 24mm pin as do Wasser boxer.
But they are a casting(but a very good one on Genuine VW pistons).
Wiseco has a distributor in Bris called Serco,
but Rodney Penrose has them in stock...but not with a dish like you want.
Try Serco for a custom order(we have, in the past, no worries, or Quantum Industries for the CP part name.)
You could run a SS spacer in the head if you wanted to.This could run directly on the head,
but a Copper gasket on the barrel side would be needed I think.

Well i just spoke with Rod Penrose and he's told me how to solve my deck height issue by getting my heads step cut inside the barrel area to increase the combustion chamber size in the heads. So after a phone call tomorrow i'll be sending them away to get that taken care of.

My skyline was bought to be reliable daily transport, but something that would be a little fun also when its raining and I can't drive the bug. Its my "company car", with gtr running gear, awd, aws, air conditioning, power steering, abs etc. And it goes around corners way better than the vw does but it will never replace my bug.

The bug is just way cooler to drive, and people crap themselves when they see how quick it is (quicker than the skyline). The looks you get are priceless.
