FUEL LINES PPL!
and dont put filters in the engine bay especially not between the carb and fuel pump
Worst place ever
best spot is under the fuel tank or beside the tranny

Does this apply to beetles too? I am assuming yes?

Yep... a few thigs different with the physical layout, but the principles with regards to maintenance and prevention (lockwiring, filter outside the engine bay etc.. ) remain the same. 🙂

With a beetle you dont have to worry about the t-section between the carbs, as there is only one carb... it is basically the same as an early bay from the rear firewall back. There is fuel plumbing extending from the fuel tank in the front and into the engine bay thru the tinware.

CHeers!

Oh btw.. out of interest, is anybody getting a 404 error message when clicking on the link to the BWM tech page?

yep any aircooled should at least not have the fuel filter anywhere near the engine.. as when motor get hot, over time filter gets hard n brittle, bump in the road far far from home and 'crack' fuel washes the hot motor and goodnight vw.. 😢
then you will be on here saying how you should of taken some affirmitve action re that filter that killed your pride n joy.. 😵‍💫

In Kombis, replace the plastic T piece in the fuel line for twin carbs with a brass fitting. Also Tie off fuel clamps to the body of the carbs.
