I got a call from my wife at work saying that her car (70 Semi auto Beetle) is stuck in second gear........
.....went and had a look at the car, the rubber bushing for the gearbox coupling had fallen out! I had a go at fitting another coupling but it's just too fiddly in the dark.
Does anyone have any tips for making my job easier?

use some daylight:P

64vwmark,
Does the coupling still have the spring on the through bolt? Take a length of old coat hanger or something to loop through the end and for removal/re-attaching it.

are u having trouble getting the ends over the rod mark?
i had to sand my new coupler a little on the inner surfaces to get it to slip on.
otherwise just rig up a light or get the family out there...one torch each from a few angles and give it another go.

It's all back together now. A bit of daylight certainly helped!
I removed the spring from the shift rod which made it heaps easier. I left the spring off and now gear changes are much easier too. This is something I would recommend to other semi auto owners out there.
thanks for the tips people
