Just in case anyone gives a damn. 145's are back in stock. Pretty impressed...the distributors had them delivered to my door today after they hit the country yesterday.
Can't complain about the service.

does anyone here run Nankang 145's with Atlas whitewall flaps?

Heard they dont get a long as the side wall is too small....

have fitted them a few times. Not too bad on 145's, but 135 the inserts stick out a bit from the tire...

I think it depends on the size of wheel. If the tread width of the tyre is narrower than the width of the wheel, the tyre wall won't "bulge" but will taper from the lip of the wheel to the edge of the tread. In that scenario the whitewall flapper has nothing to sit against and just floats in space out from the tyre wall. I reckon if you put a 135 on a three inch wheel the flappers would sit nicely, or a 145 on a 3.5" or 4" wheel would sit well. If you've got 145's on a 5" wheel it's prob not gonna sit as well.
Not that you can't do it and drive it like that. From the side it looks fine, but when you get up close you see the whitewall sitting out from the tyre.

yeh thats what I meant. If they stay there then they are workin right?? Really shouldn't run 145's on 5" anyway, if you are esp with w/walls you have to fit a tube...

hey there...

is there any reason as not to run a 145 on a 5" rim? im looking to do this maybe very shortly and would like to know if it would be a problem or not??

plus from a tech point are they 145/15 or 145/80/15 for the sizing pls..
cheers paul

I have run 145's on a 5 1/2" rim, and so have many others. Its just a little safer with cornering etc to have a tube in there. If the pressure is down a little, its really not that hard for the tyre to come off the rim if you throw the car into a corner.
The tyre is listed as a 145/15.
If the profile is not listed then it is 80 series, so either would be correct.

Who did you get them through Brad, how much is the new batch??

I got them trade, but I don't think the price has changed. They're actually 145x78x15. Don't forget that 2%!!

A 4 inch rim is ideal for a 145R15 but 3.5 and 4.5 inch rims are allowable.

I can't imagine your vehicle would stop quickly with these tyres on it. I had 145 Michelin XZX and they were okay but would skid easily in an emergency stop. I shudder to think what stopping would be like with a cheap Taiwanese brand tyre with the small 145 foot print.

It's a cool look but I suggest you drive carefully.

The Nankangs are actually a lot softer compound, and nicer to drive on than the Michelins in my opinion. They were, and I think still are made by the Yoko factory. With drum brakes and a 165 you are not much better off!!

Yeh cool Brad. I have bought from the wholesaler for years. Good money in tyres!

I have 135's on 4.5s and the white walls fit ok.I have Atlas ones.I can vouch for the not stopping too goodly.Last week we had some rain and a lady pulled out in front of me.I steped on the brakes and the front locked up and skidded me up a gutter, holing a sidewall and tearing a flapper!

Yokohama has nothing to do with Nankang except that they made their logo look similar.

If you're told they use Yokohama technology then you've been conned.
