Hi,
I have a 6v elec sys and am replacing the generator. I have picked up the new one and when mounting the regulator found that it has a extra wire coming out of it. I have hooked the two wires from the top of the gen to the reg (little wire on left bigger wire on right) but this third wire comes from underneath the gen directly from the bushes, Where does it go?????

Thanks in advance for your speedy replies

Ian.

Yeah I have shown it to a couple of VW mechanics and they haven't seen one like it before either. I may try and get a different one and not run any risks.

Can you get a couple of pictures?. Or even what colour the wire is? Does the wire look modern or does it have the old gold looking terminals?

Umm he said it was coming directly from the brushes. I wouldnt earth them. As someone else said if your not sure and one hundred percent sure of the answers, take it to an auto electrician, they ain't exactly cheap but better than frying your gen

Well, after hooking the Gen up and running the engine I tested the unussual wire and found it didn't carry a charge or a polarity. I also found the Gen was not making the right amount of voltage so am returning it to where i bought it.

Thanks for poeople's input though.
