engine is revving at aorund 5-6k at idle then when you let out clutch and actually try and drive it forward, it wont take off, just very slowly picks up speed at max is 60ks foot flat. it hardly goes up hills in 2nd gear, seems to me its flooding... how do i disconnect the chokes?

sounds a lot more than just the chokes stuck on, the chance of them both being stuck is also remote, tho im pretty sure it is a wire connection on the side of the card to connect/ dissconnect the choke dude

check the equaliser hosing going between the carbs, one may have slipped off, that suits those symptoms

good luck

Disconnect the linkage to both carbs and see where you rev

You have more than choke problems.

Yes sounds like the electric auto chokes may be disconnected to power, which means they are ON all the time...
For Solex carburetors :
The electric choke is the round piece on the right hand side of the carb...
it has 3 small screws... in a round piece of metal.
just loosen the 3 screws and turn the round choke piece anti clockwise...

if You look down the carby throat You will see the choke flap is Vertical.... = No choke...

Now make sure there is no fuel flooding into your carburetor with the engine going...
this means the needle and seat need replacing...
I'm assuming the standard fuel pump is still being used...
You would be able to see this looking down the throat of the carburetor...

Best of Luck
