Woman fails carjacking as car was manual

A manual gear change foiled a woman who's alleged to have attempted a carjacking in southern Sydney, police say.

The 20-year-old woman is alleged to have pulled a 49-year-old female driver from her car after it had stopped at an intersection in Forest Road, Miranda, about 6pm (AEST) on Tuesday.

But a police spokeswoman said when the woman jumped in the car and attempted to drive off, she was surprised to encounter the manual gears.

She tried to run off but was restrained by two male bystanders.

The woman was arrested and charged with intent to take or drive motor vehicle and common assault.

She was refused bail to appear in Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

i had my auto licence for 3yrs bfore going for my manual got sick of looking at nice cars and finding out they were manual when i first got my licence i saw a red convertible beetle with full carrera kit for $4000 it was perfect but a manual , i am still spewing over that car :cussing i ended up with a camira wagon :puke
