Hi all,
I've just got a Nos ski rack from Germany for the bug. The top (strap) piece is easy to fit however I can't work out how the lower tray fits- it didn't come with instructions and there is only nut, bolt, bracket and metal washer. From surfing the net this seems normal but I just can't work it out.
Does anyone have an image of the tray section fitted -it's driving me MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi, your ski rack base is supposed to fit to the inside of the bumper bracket, either side, (leftor right bracket) but it must be the exhaust side of the brackets, not the wheels (outside??) side of the brackets. hope that makes some sense, probably more sense than having ski-racks in australia!!! ha :P ha!!
sorry no pics but have a look thru old vw mags, you will see them in there!

That makes sense, I can see how I can use one of the bumper mount bolts (exhaust side) but I'm still unsure of where the bracket, nut , bolt and spacer come into play - I've been through all my Volksworlds, Vw ultras but I must have missed the restro cal editions.....
The master plan is to buy some cheap skis spray them red and cream pinstripe em . My bug is cream/white with red interior, so it's all about the look.:bounce
I'm terrible at skiing anyway:P

It's a great link, unfortunately mine is similar but doesn't have the same bracket fixing.
I've just had a play with the rack on the car - what's puzzling me is how the second fixing attaches, it's too far away to use the towelrail bolt so I guess it uses the bumper blade itself by clamping the washer and bracket between the blade edge.
Anyone know any better?
whoaa there dubmonkey, before you go ruin things, looking at the pic dumone posted, it looks like the rack fits where the towel rail mounts to the bumper, if this is your type of kit then you might need a new bumper, the one i am familiar with uses the bumper bracket itself, alot of people seem to think they hang in free air or mount to the rear valance, but that is too close to the body, ski's shouldn't be kept bent or they will keep that shape! even if you wont be using them!!
