I went into volkspower in burwood and they have told me my carbies need a kit thru them, but they want $250 a side and thats a bit too steep i reckon, the rod that runs thru them with the butterflys on it has too much movement in them. the guy i bought my kombi off told me he has a guy out in diamond creek , i just have to take them out and drop thenm off to him,and he will drill them out where the rod goes in and fit a bush inside it and wack em back together for $20 a side. only prob is im in box hill and diamond creek is too far away and i dont have any other transport other than the van. anybody know anywhere?

there is a bit of work in doing them properly, especially rebushing shafts etc. Thornbury carburettors are very good, but for a good job it is not cheap. And the cheap job will not be good. It is simple to put a couple of $10 rebuild kits through the carbs, but cleaning the galleries and surfacing all the gasket faces takes time...
I have also used South Eastern Carbs, as they were closer. Thornbury are weber/dellorto experts too...
good luck

We won't be buying from Thornbury again!

Recently bought over $500 worth of new Weber parts, and the "new" Venturis at $264 (new price for 4) were VERY second hand! Pitted, worn & showed clear evidence of having been installed several times. Of course when questioned the guy continues to claim they are "new". (And they were the wrong parts too! I didn't realise as the parts were couriered as the work was urgent.)

Update: Cost me $150 extra (labor) to have the wrong, worn venturis modified to fit.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

Is there a Good HONEST Weber parts place in Melb?

Thanks for that. Have always heard that Wilson were good. I wonder if they would have Weber parts - I suppose they would. I used to get my Weber spare parts from Autosport, but the company has changed hands & moved - I'll check the 'new' Autosport too, as it is nearer than Wilson. Haven't heard of SouthEastern Carbs, but will check them out also.

ive used autosport years ago, he ordered the bits in for me as he didnt have them, from Thornbury I believe!! That was a long time ago not sure what they are like now.
Sorry to hear of your dealings with Thornbury.. my experience has been all good.
If you spent $500 on Weber bits, I would have bought brand new carbs! If anymore than a set of particular jets is needed then buy them from overseas. The tuning shop I used had a good selection of jets so I didn't need to buy too much...

If your in Box Hill there's a place in Ringwood I've been to that's pretty decent called Allans Carby shop... I think. They tuned up some webers for me and did a great job. Nice blokes and reasonable price. Volkspower's expensive on everything and not that good either... But if your looking for VW specialist VW performance in Croydon are great, really nice, genuine people and I thinks it Volksaffair in Boronia are also really fair dinkum. But Allans will be the closest, not far from ringwood station.
Cheers,
Dustin

Not sure why you had a bad experience with Thornbury, but I have dealt with them many times and been very happy with the service and advice they have given.
