ouch 🙁

Would rather work than uni, tis y i'm reassessing my career. Uni not only consumes the work days of the week, but it becomes ur life. u work OUTSIDE of the 8hr a day attendance etc... working weekends, evenings through till early mornings (3am to 4am).

Its not kool.
Tafe seems a little lighter (in some areas), Dad who is a teacher at logan tafe gonna help me out in working where on earth i wanna go. I don't enjoy my course.... tis the first yr they released it, so got the crap end of the stick, and am the guinnea pig. The courses we get are so unorganised, lacking in resources and staff, and irrelavent in some cases... cause my course participants are the first.
🙁

stupid uni....
rant over.

Speaking from personal experience, study Hard!! 8 hour days are the "short" days I work in my indurstry! Holidays are usually taken in wintertime when business is slow. Xmas & the next few months following are flat out busy! If you havn't guessed, I work in Retail. A fruit shop to be precise. Kinda like the ass end of the retail industry. A bit like hospitality with better pay. The only degree I got while attending uni was an honours degree in beer drinking (which helped get my Masters in Philosophy, BA in Political studies, Diploma in Religion and my Phd in Medicine - specialising in miracle hangover cures:puke). I also learned that the only way of clearing a HECS debt was thru work. Here endith the lesson.
BTW. Have fun on ya holidays you lucky bugger!!!😎

Chris, although there are certainly exceptions to the rule, I feel (my opinion only) that the majority of people who complete their university degrees will benefit from the experience even if it is not in the field of study. Although the immediate impact on social life (although uni were probably the busiest and most enjoyable years of socialising thus far for me - what I can remember of them) can be quite significant, it is generally worth the three or four (or whatever) years of inconvenience for a life of opportunities.

As mentioned, there are people who will feel uni was a waste of time - I guess it depends on what you study and how you approach life in general (ie. maybe getting paid crap for working in a field you love......or be willing to work in a field you don't love for the sake of getting paid well to enjoy life and hobbies outside work etc).

Good luck in your decision but consider it carefully as to how it impacts your long term future (not just the immediate future).

The "short' days are usually on my "days off". Then there is the other 60 hours+ in my working week.
I don't know what industry you're in Volkswagenboy but you have my understanding from where you are coming from! I hope Bajachris is listening!

Cool.:thumb I'm not sure how selling fruit helps with dubs much. It's handy to have a hobby on the side (kinda like getting home and saying hi to the missus!). It's scary to think that some people (myself included), spend more time with those we work with than those we love. (AVD is also partially to blame for not seeing my missus too!). We have a wonderful relationship, I have the net, she has the remote. :kiss

5 months?? how did you manage that?

looking forward to a few months of working my arse off, doing some stupidly long road rides (on a bicycle, not this woosy motorised stuff) buying a new mountain bike and doing some stupidly beautiful trail rides, saving some money and working on getting cherry looking stupidly beautiful again... and hopefully getting a few photography gigs/exhibitions/actually making money from my stupidly beautiful images.

chances are i will probably be studying during my holidays too... organic synthesis is NOT an easy subject, regardless of wether you are a passionate chemist or not. i had best be prepared 🙂

My experience of uni is this:

You take in heaps of shit for 3 or 4 years while only retaining it until the exam and walk out the door never to use almost all of it again. The only things that are of any value that you learn at uni are the analytical skills and (hopefully) the confidence to stand up in front of someone and put your ideas across and promote those ideas to someone who is a non believer. For me it wasnt that I learnt how to create a library records database in 4 different programming languages or an online othello game or %&^%$ system development lifecycle 20 times. It was learning and practicing the basic concepts. If you can learn basics, you can build on them and be analytical, come up with ideas and if you are confident enough to put those ideas across.... the world is your oyster.

You dont HAVE to go to uni to get all this stuff. But without the degree I would have found it pretty hard to bust into this job.
