We are wanting to plan another get together, so if you have any ideas and suggestions, we would appreciate it!

I'm in WA! I'll be going to Day of the VW, hopefully in the splitty if its fixed 😉
This will be my first Aussie show and I can't say I'm impressed at the lack of advertising about it... most people I know hadn't got a clue when/where it is.
Am I missing something?
Are there any trade stands/ displays/ activities?

Hey Sam,
Your not missing anything.....
I'm with you on that!! There is a big lack of motivation from the people behind the DOVW to let people know about it.. (Not that I blame them)
As a sponsor of this day and others that have been put on by the club, I would not be in any hurry to do it again as there is No benefit to a sponsor because there is a lack of advertising and promotion. If this is your first show/ VW day in Australia you will find it a big eye opener if you have been to the shows in other countries. These are a big laid back day where you park your car on an oval and walking around talking to each other, wondering what to do next. There is a huge lack of things to do which is very disappointing. I have approached the club about activities and games and the response is that they can’t run them because of the lack of people wanting to help. This is even after I said I would offer prizes and build the games like a Rocker cover race and other things. Again as I have said before, the biggest problem is the lack of people wanting to help. Its not that the people that are doing the work now are lazy, it more the fact that there are not enough of them and those that do help are run off their feet.
I remember the last DOVW rocker cover race..... it was about 1992 or 1993, when the club still held the show at the Esplanade.
The issues with DOVW have a lot to do with the club - its actually relatively small, and not overly visible to the average Joe - although the big turnouts at the DOVW (not as big as they used to be though) would belie the numbers of ppl that are around. I'm not criticising though - I've seen a bit of what it takes to run a club like this and I personally wouldnt be able to fit that committment into my life.
when is it after all that ? NExt weekend at burswood ?

Sunday 3rd December At G'O Edwards Park over the road from Burswood
Anyone up for a Cruise from north of the river.....
I'm sure the boys from NoH2o will still do one from freo for the southerners.
But us Northern folk should get together as well.......
I was thinking meet up at 8am, and on the road by 8.45am.
We could meet up in Malaga then drive down to the day via Read and Tonkin Hwy's then on to Great Eastern Hwy to G'O Edwards Park. Then we should get there by 9.30am
sounds like some of you are getting it together!! good on ya, i support you 100%.
The VWCofWA lack enthusiasm because they are scared of being sued or being called hoons because god forbid should anything go wrong!!!!
the more the merrier i say and to hell with the consequences!! you only live once, make the most of it,i dont want to die with any regrets!

I may be wrong, but the VW Club of WA doesn't seem to do anything but produce meeting minutes... the website is crap, doesn't have any info on events... nobody i know belongs to it because they don't seem very approachable - its all a bit disappointing.
If there's nothing to 'do' at the show then nobody will come... especially if its not been advertised very well. We don't need to call it a 'show' to sit in a car park and look at each others cars 🤪
[steps down from soapbox]
OK. Some responses.
The VW Club has two club runs every month. Very few people attend and then its usually the committee.
The recent Kruize got 5 cars to complete the run which ended with free tickets to the Zoo. If you don't like what we organise, then tell us, be prepared to help us to organise it and also guarantee that you will attend.
Maybe the website is crap. I don't think that it is. We had a very good webmaster who recently resigned. We need a new web master. I know nothing of such things, so I can't do it. Instead of slinging off at the website how about volunteering to be our webmaster? My attitude is, if you are prepared to suggest that somethng be done, then be prepared to be the person who does it. If you know anyone who is willing to be our webmaster, then get them to contact us.
How are we unapproachable? We have a web site, a magazine, a contact phone number and email addresses. I have never refused to talk about the VW Club to anyone who has approached me.
We advertise the DoVW all over the city. At every VW dealer and repair shop, in the newspaper, on radio, in local newspapers, on the Saturday before in the Westaustralian, with Access 31's Cruizin, on this forum and other VW related ones. Make other suggestions, be prepared to help us and I will see that it is done.
I'm open to ideas, so contact me here or by U2U, or email or telephone.
BTW. So you want entertainment on the day? I don't see it as my role in life to entertain people, especially when the committee and I are run off our feet all day organising a car show. The last big car how that I attended in the Burswood Dome, was exactly that, a car show, not an entertainment festival. There is no entertainment at the Classic Car Show at Whiteman Park.
Please don't flame me for this respnse. Contact me and give the committee and I a hand to make the club better.

:cry i dont think i will be coming now , due to unforseen circunstances ,
OK, It wasn't my intention to criticise ... i'm sure that its a lot of work on top of everyone's 'real life jobs'. I guess we've been spoilt in the UK because shows are so big that its usually somebodies JOB to sort these things out. I know i couldn't, so ONYA for that 😉
Having said that, I was just musing over what will be happening on the day... Will there be any traders? Will there be a hot-dog van or some stupid fun stuff like engine swops? I dont know, cos i've never been before but speaking to those that have it sounds like it might be a bit of a car park in which not much happens... I hope i'm pleasantly surprised 😉 I wasn't expecting 'entertainment'... like i'm not bothered if U2 don't turn up. But i expected to see fliers attached to lamposts and the windscreens of cars around town, and a big discussion thread on the forums (is this it?).
I'll be going - I hope its a good day
No time no time!
On Sundays I usually get up late, go have a short black at Ginos , check the value of my house has rissen yet again in the sunday papers and complain about the cost of bananas
:jesus
count us in. the more the merrier!
