just realised the cv's in my bus are greaseless, only had it for month or so and have not driven it much, duno how long this has been the case. But when i move the cv's on both sides its metal on metal clinking (sounds like valve lash) and there appears to be no grease in there.

Im feeling probably about 2mm free play perpendicular to the shaft. Are they dead or should be ok if i get some grease in there?

thanks guyz

They are dead when you go round a corner and you hear a clicking noise.

Pull them off and check / pack em now - you could be ok

One thing is a MUST....

Lithium based Moly grease.... Castrol LMM or any other Lithium based MOLY grease...

Don't use anything else.....

I've used it on Front wheel drive CVs which were clicking going round a corner...

stopped all the noise....

I usually like the CV's to be grooveless... to reuse...
I pull them apart and wash in them in Kero....

then examine them...
and if they are not marked too badly by the ball bearings....

I used to grease them before i assembled them... but I found that extremely difficult when covered in Lithium grease... to reassemble them etc...

so. I now reassembly the CV joint then push in the Lithium grease....
still very messy...
lots of Paper towels and disposible gloves...
but make sure the grease gets right into the joints...

the lithium based Moly grease will then do its job...

yep i`d give them a go with repacking, like lee said wear disposable gloves as the grease is the blackest stick to evrything and stains skin stuff known to man😀

Use a syringe to blow some gearbox oil into them via the 'small' axle end for now 😉
