If its a Beetle then its before 1955 as the number is under 1 million
whats the body style is it an Oval any pics
The spare wheel number is a body number that isnt sequential
Do you know what that 'MKA' number references Dave? I've got the same thing and I've never been able to find out what it means..
ruckus: my 54 (built in 55) starts with an 08**,***
...and Robert's ya father's brother...
Yeah sorry it's Freddy the '54 oval. Want to check this out to see what it'll be registered as and find out if the pan is original.
Don't worry I'm not going all purist, just interested.
Yeah I assumed the MKA number was the yeah and month, but maybe that's just a fluke?
Anywhere else I should look for the numbers?
No dont know how thw body numbers work
They all seem to be random not sequential

Hi,
it was made before march 28th 1955...
the last beetle made on march 28th was chassis number
1- 0848612...
the 1- was dropped in Dec 1955..
maybe because there was a million beetles by then...??
Where is the heater knob in this beetle??
it would have had only One tail pipe - exhaust...
the twin tail pipes started in early August 1955..
tail lights would have been down near the bumper too...
Any Pics??
cheers

MKA is a reference to Martin and Kind Pty Ltd who assembles CKD kits. my 56 oval has an MKA number and so did my fathers. 🙂

TYP-114 wrote:My dates are based on a VW factory manual called Progressive Refinements, Volume 1. It list every change, nuts, bolts and everything else done from 1948 - 1961. It also lists the production dates to the end of each month. The last Beetle chassis number for March 1955, according to the Factory book, was 847966.
Hi Typ-114
I believe Your Book would be More Correct then My Non VW books... I'm depending on some authors who thought they knew.... and many of them don't....
I see many errors in all the books I own....

Finally cleaned off the back of the speedo yesterday when I was moving house and saw that it's stamped 3.55, so I'm guessing that's that. Thanks for everyone's input/help.
so do 54's have ribbed doors too, Rob?
