hi im having a problem with intermittent shuddering whilst driving along ,it makes the gearshift rattle and feels like the whole rearend is coming loose, its not broken engine mounts as i first thought as i have just changed them as they were spongy and half split, could it be a cv about to go or maybe my gearbox about to shit itself❓❓❓any thoughts will be appreciated:thumb

oh and by the way its in my 82 caravelle

is it at any particular speed or is it completely random. could be oil on the clutch plate especially if its getting worse

any bent rims? any shochys come off the bolts?
did these have a mech clutch ? if so the cable tube must have an S bend in it
The beetle ones etc needed a tight bend to stop clutch shudder

failing all that are the c-vs loose ie the 8 allen screws on each end of the axle shaft
check wheel nuts too
gets worse and then bang!!
want any vw bits old but like me, Made in Germany!!!

the trick is to put on those disposable gloves from the super market mate then when finished peel them off. works with packing bearing as well

It could well be a CV on the way out but while your there check your tyres for any unusual wear or delamanating. A bad tyre can cause severe vibration at varying speeds and is often overlooked.

Howzabout a gearbox bearing... My input shaft bearing whines to a degree all the time, buit some days are worse than others, and on bad days, the vibration can be felt and heard through the car, particularly through the shifter and accellerator...

well after finding out my spare cvs were beetle ones ,i repacked the old ones ,and theat lasted till last thursday arvo when i got 300 mtrs away from home and BANG no forward momentum got it back home and low and behold a cv i replaced last year s@#t itself, so have now replaced them both on that axle and no vibrations, a lesson learned about cv joints😢
