Damn good system too. Next they should make it compulsory to have at least 3rd party property insurance. I heard on radio the other day that they are finding more people than they ever expected driving unregistered cars.

Yesterday they found an unlicenced driver (disqualified 20 years ago!) in unregistered, unisured car just around the corner from where I work 👍

I agree amazeer. I believe that in Holland everyone must be fully insured, for everything, at all times. Because it's universal, it's not too expensive to be insured.

Winston Churchill said words to this effect, "I would like to write the word 'insured' over the door of every common man, otherwise calamities will be visited upon the family which will smash them up forever."

the cameras are manned. it reads a number plate, checks it against the database, and then the cop down the road is called on radio to pick them up.

I haven't seen one yet but I'm told by the father of a highway patrol officer that these machines are VERY expensive....

The Police are catching unregistered cars and unlicenced [mostly disqualified] drivers daily....
there must be thousands and thousands of them out there...
driving around....

so make sure you drive defensively in Your VW.....

Mandatory insurance would be great, as it would bring the price down if EVERYONE was insured....

Having My beetle insured , lowered My green slip price by around $45..
with NRMA Veteran Vintage Classic car insurance...

22 serving victorian police were caught drink driving in the 2005-06 financial year.

I think something like 500 people were caught drink driving in NSW over christmas period. When you consider how small the percentage of people tested would actually be, then its safe to assume that there are probably 10's of thousands of people drink driving every day. Frightening thoughts.

Lee the "machines" are no more than a good tcp/ip camera linked to a reasonably good pc with recognition software installed ,and the software is not outrageously expensive, however the software is still being developed to attain 100% accuracy
Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

with one all important difference. If a speeding driver hits your VW you get compensated. If an unregistered driver backs into your VW, he laughs in your face.
