Having a bit of fuel trouble with the buggy lately and am gob smacked with the help, Heaps of tips in the tech talk section, but as well can't believe the blokes (no birds yet, still hopeing) that just pull up to offer help at the side of the road. Fella a few days back went screwing past at Hexam (near Newcastle for you poor unfortunates that don't come from here abouts) did a u turn and came back to check if he could help, can't remember but think his name was Cal, from Cardiff in a QL registered buggy, sorry if I got that wrong bloke, more shame on me but I am still chasing the exhaust fella if you read this. Then yesterday when stoped near Jesmond a bloke walks up with his overalls over his arm ready to help if needed, couldn't even see his car, turned out to be a falcon. Said he was just a bush mechanic but may be able to help if needed as he had driven a bus out to Broken Hill and back years ago and had a few clues. Is it just Vdubs or are people generaly getting more friendly and helpfull?

i had all sorts help me out when i was travelling in the kombi, even the towies were really nice blokes, but when i stopped in the territory to help a guy who had boiled his falcon i had to have my mate follow me with his switchblade concealed just to give the guy some water, all i did was stop to see that he was ok, and he opened his rad against my instructions, losing lots of water, then when i offered water from my water tank he forced me to fill about 10L worth of containers he had with him and didnt offer so much as a thankyou.
hopefully my volvo is an interesting enough car to look at that people will stop for her too if need be, i think most people are nice, but an interesting looking car such as a VW draws their attention and maks it far more likely for them to stop, because not one of the people who stopped for me and my kombi was driving a dub.

Generally with breakdown help, people are pretty good… they were in the UK as well (I always used to stop, and we even scored a free beetle out if once!)

However, hardly anybody waves to me in the splitty… in the UK it doesn’t matter what you’re driving – superbug, kombi, ghia, T25… anything dub related, everyone always gives a cheery wave.

95% of people in Aus just blank me/ don’t notice and about 3% look at me as if I’ve just dropped out of a dogs arse!

Just my humble observations!

Ah,
that reminds me. If anyone from down Newcastle way (it was near there) knows who was driving a blue and white beetle with some surfboards on the roof (and two very nice looking young lasses in the front seats), it was another dubber who pulled up next to them when you were stopped near Caruah (spelling) to see if you were okay. I was just in a Land cruiser at the time.

And I wave to splitties, but in my type 3 only other type 3's really wave back 🙁

yeah, the type3 wave isnt too strong, the bay kombi one is good, even includes highbeam flashes on occasion. 😀
