I won tickets in the local free paper's competition. Foolishly I asked them to be posted out to me. They havent arrrived and the office is closed. Gonna be spewing if they are lost in transit.

Anyway so I am going down regardless, as I do for one day every year. Got to see those stupid rednecks with V8 sumpoil running through their veins get even stupider on VB and bundy rum. Mostly they (and the cars) are a bunch of tossers but there are several examples of beautiful metal work which I could only dream of being talented enough to create. I'm actually in the market for the perfect paint and panel shop so thats part of my momentum this year. Of course theres some classy (or not) women that I dont mind looking at from a distance(for purely scientific research) that go with summernats like sauce on a cold $6 meat pie. Wont try to deny that cos nobody who reads BA would believe me anyhow. Sorry Heather dearest, begin the excessive puking.

How meny others are going?

I lived in Canberra for years. Even when I was a student at ANU and an associate member of the loony left student's union I used to go to the 'Nats. I kept quiet about it as I wanted them to believe that I was a good lefty not a closet red neck who hung around to get the girls. LOL.

I went a few years ago and if you're a car nut its the best place to be. Like everywhere else that has a crowd you will get the odd dickhead but they are a small minority and easily ignored, and usually the ones that don't own a car or have to skills to build one.

There are some amazing pieces of art being created in Oz.

I was there with Wayne penrose when his cab "Mango Dream" got into the top 60.

Great effort for a VW in with all the V8"s.

He was even situated next to Gary Myres silver mustang.

It was amazing how many of the V8 guys came over to the cab and were just in awe of it.

So many of them were regailing in stories of when the had a bug or bus and how much they would love to have on again.

So this just goes to show that there is a little veedubber in everyone.

Odd.
On the streets I've only seen 3 classy FX/FJ utes and a whale sized old Ford. Keeping schtum this year?
Prior years at least two weeks before the event the streets would be crawling with heavy metal.

With gas prices the way it is running a twin carb big block has got to hurt...I know here in WA the numbers are down on cruises.

The program seems to have changed a little this year. Previously I have only gone on the Sunday, but Saturday seems to be a much bigger day this year and thats what I am aiming for this year if I can convince mates to break with tradition. Dont make the mistake I have of busting your butt to get there early. Most of the display cars dont come out until lunch time. At least this year temperatures arent expected to be so hot.

I will be there on friday. Burnout eliminations, Show n Shine and Trade stands. Haven't missed one yet. It's about the only thing worth living in canberra for.

Well my son Dean and I went down to the summernats for both the saturday and sundays events . We drove down in Mango and stayed at a friends place just 400m away from the event . It was very pleasant going down to just look around and not have to rush and get the car ready . We didn't leave to come back till monday morning . Was a great event . Here are some pics .
