Hi guys. i was wondering if you can swap the body from a 68-70, so swing axle rear and balljoint front onto a 65 floor pan? and can you swap the ball joint front beam over onto the k&l or do you need an adapter? and can this swap be done without modicication?
trunk monkey, because sometime getting your car back just isn't enough
May be gen in contact with Dasdubber.
That is what he did with the blue bug that just sold. A 70 on an early 60's
But a BJ beam wont fit K&L
Futue te ipsum!!!
Plenty of people have put early bodies on late pans, so there shouldnt be any probs going the other way......the only difference that I'm aware of is the rear body mount near the shocks, I think it needs to be shortened when you put an early body onto late pan, so I guess you may need to lengthen it going the other way.
The spacing between the torsion tubes is different between the Link Pin & Balljoint beams, so to fit a Balljoint beam to a Link Pin floorpan, you will need to weld on a Balljoint frame head.....please dont flatten out the link pin frame head and bolt on a balljoint beam.....I have seen this done and it is DANGEROUS!!

ive seen a few late bodys on early floor pans
at a mates old vw grave yard there was a 70 1500 body on a 66 floor pan
and one of the car dealers here in town bought australias dodgiest convertable at the brisbane auctions
it was a 76 body on a 62 floorpan
the chassis number was ground off, the engine number had ground off and restamped on and the engine had 6mm endfloat
yet it still ran pretty well and someone somehow got it registered in nsw again
and dasdubbers was a 70 body on a 66 UK floorpan
so it can be done
yes it can be done It would be better to keep the 68-70 floor pan and fit the early body
the only problem area would be the rear body mount near the shock absorber it will have to be cut to suit or added to if you want to go back to the early chassis
The king n link wont fit onto the late chassis
what wheel stud pattern do you want to end up with
