boys and girls was wpndering if a 6 volt starter would fit on a 12 volt 1600
because i really really like the fast spin when a 12 volt conversion is done leaving the 6 volt starter:jesus:vader

Also why bother. 6 volt type flywheels etc are getting harder to get and there is nothing wrong with the 12 volt system.

You would need to change to a 180mm 6 volt flywheel
as someone has said... then downsize the clutch etc..

12 Volt flywheels are 200mm... and have 130 teeth..
not sure on 6 volts..

Outside diameter of 12 volt ring gear is 276mm
............................. 6 volt ring gear is 272mm

and I have heard that they slowly self destruct...
[well not slowly... lol... ] as the teeth engage very fast...

but I have heard of people finding out their starter motor was 6 volts after many years of service...
maybe it depends on how long it takes to start the engine

Hi

Early Type 3s and 1500 cc Kombis had 200mm, 6volt flywheels, some didn't have the O ring seal like the later 12 volt ones.

I always use 12 volt semi auto starters for that extra zing, they bolt straight up to a 12 volt manual motor. There's on on Ebay at the moment.

i need the extra turn over so the blower will huff and puff straight away and not take as long to start pressurising the fuel seems a little thing but makes a huge differance i have been playing with a bloody big truck battery and it makes a huge diff
