Hi all,

Having just spent a couple of hours re-writing our club web site I have had nothing but problems with the sites current host (It's a free host, so I s'pose I got what I paid for 😀).

I need to move the site to a paid host ASAP - can anyone recommend a host that they have used? We really don't need anything too flashy ... but I don't want annoying restrictions either.

Any suggestions or recommendations anyone?

R 🙂

PS: Have a look at our club site and see if it does anything stupid to you ... some of the images won't load as I was unable to upload them to the host for some reason.... click on the club symbol in my signature if you are interested...

I look after wollongong sporting car clubs site http://www.wscc.org.au

I'm using webarama http://www.webarama.com.au/ and the only trouble I had was when they moved the server from the US to Australia. I had my FTP set up with the IP address instead of the domain name so I was uploading to the wrong place. Never any problems with the service at all, I have never noticed any downtime. I'm using the bronze package which I think is just under $200/year. At first it was hard to get permission from the club to set it up, but we have gone from struggling to get 20 hillclimb entries to regularly getting 40-50 meaning it is actually making over $7000/year. I dont even bother sending out invitations in the mail anymore. And that is just with my non existant website skills.

Worth the money for you too. You'll appear in search engines. If you put volkswagen club gold coast in google at the moment you get nothing much relevant other than references to AVD. You'll ditch the pop up ads, and you can set up a php forum just like this one.

You'll need to register the domain name as well, which I think may be around $35/yr

Thanks for your replies volks.... I'll look into everything that you have suggested (then I have to 'sell' the idea of paying for a web site to the club).

I hope to have the site moved in the next two weeks....

hehehe - isn't that interesting - I checked up on the club web site immediately after the last post and it's all working fine....apart from those annoying pop-ups.

...thats not going to stop me moving it though...
