Hi Folks,
A friend over in Ireland works on an alternative car magazine.. can't remember what it's called off the top of my head, but they features all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff.
Anyhows, he wants to get my beetle in the mag, and has asked for some photos.
Any ideas on locations around Melbourne? Im thinking to have some blurred graffiti or down and out builings in the background.. or a diner type place or garage, but would need to be quiet wherever I go.
What do you think?

i'd have a drive around under the Bolte Bridge on the Footscray Road side, that and around the docklands areas, and near the train yards
64 Beetle. Like a beaten up 70's speedboat.
I know this is completely different, but if you want water views and rocky headlands with beaches in the background, go down the road on the foreshore past Brighton and down to Rickets Point near Mordialoc and on to Frankston. It's good rugged stuff in places and possibly with access from the parking areas. Maybe the Brighton Council will give you access to the row of multi coloured bathing boxes on the beach, if you tell them it's for tourist publicity.
There is a lane off Ackland Street St Kilda FULL of good grafitti, or for something different, there is a hundred year old derelict old bottle shop on the corner of Mountain Hwy and Bayswater Rd Bayswater thats pretty cool.
Click the Beetle
If you want graffiti drive down De'greives lane off flinders st oppisite fed sqaure world renowned spot the walls change totally every 2 months.

awesome.. so many great ideas. even if i dont use them for the magazine, i want to check them out anyway!
this is all good info, as im new here and trying to find places to play with my new camera is tricky... so thanks very much, and I'll keep you posted.
If you want to go a bit further, check out the great ocean road..
There's nothing like the wind on your head, where your hair used to be.....................
The top level of the car park at Victoria Gardens shopping centre in Richmond is awesome at sunset. The city skyline can be seen and it looks amazing. I had my beetle photographed there for an ANZ bank ad a few years back.
🤘
Why don't we get a few cars together for the shoot.
I'll bring the rat if anyone else is interested....
I'd be interested.. it'll be good to get the others to hold onto the silver car visors/light reflectors!
...and Robert's ya father's brother...

cool idea... a meet and a photoshoot all in one go!
Any firm ideas yet??
Docklands at dusk - there's plenty of room around there to not have shadow casts from buildings. Exactly where though, that remains another issue. And whether we do the 'proper' Docks or out the front of the residential area...
...and Robert's ya father's brother...
ok well... its seems that my friend over there is satisfied using some rathery poor (in my opinion) shots that I took outside my apartmnent building a couple of months ago!
so I no longer need a photo shoot for that.. but this is turning in to something much more interesting.
what say one sunday soon we arrange a couple of locations.. do one 'shoot' in the morning... drive somewhere for lunch, and then one in the afternoon, and generally make a nice day of it? could be a laugh.. and a good chance to get the cars out for a day out.

Are they the shots in your Memeber's Rides thread? I didn't think they weren't to shabby! Ah well...
I like the idea of catching the morning sun...
Another idea for sunset is Edithvale - possibly at the boat club car park over looking the beach? (might even be able to get a couple wheels onto the sand
😉 better bring some wood and shovels just in case...) With this location, the sun sets right over the water, 'perpendicular' to the shore, if you know what i mean...

Bugboy is a pervert. Get your shoe camera off!!!!!!!!!!!
This sounds like a great idea if I haven't sold the 64 I'll come along for sure

madness. my dad lives in solihull.
any of the back alleys areound melbourne would be sweet, otherwise, out near me in Ringwood, there is a great old factory next to the trainstation, the Sparkles factory, well and truly derilict, lots of graffiti, funky old factory, i have some photos of it if ud like me to post one up, also out near bayswater, not sure how you'd get to it (legally) but there is a huge wall next to the railway tracks which is well coated top to bottom and looks pretty cool.

is it east to get access to the Sparkles factory?

its attached to the renault joint, the Alpine Connection i think it is, you can drive straight up to it by road, and as long as your careful i cant see any reason why you couldnt drive around the other sides on the grass to pick the best spot, i spent about 20min shooting there a while ago. you just drive under the bridge, and instead of going left to the main ringwood station carpark you hand a left past a small carpark then past the Alpine connection.

The world is a small place Do you know Andrew Suominen he drives an oval and is from Lem ?
Nath that's right were over here on a covert mission to buy up any rare volksie stuff and sent it back. By the way good call on Kittens car wash I drove past it on the way home tonight and after one of the girls finished washin the wheels on this one car she jumped on the pole and started dancing no shit. I recon the rear end crashes must of quadrupled since that joint opened.:P
