Number one son is a learner at this point in time, has been for 12 months.
The only thing he has driven in this time is the T3 Caravelle.
Yesterday, I have the Caravelle in the driveway, the bay on the street. You can probably guess what's coming.
The big hurry to go & see his squeeze, out the drive & turns way too early.
The little mongrel manages to bend not one, but two of my trucks at the same time.
Bent back bumper & broken tail light for the bay & a dirty great scrape & dint in the sliding door of the bus.
Anyone interested in a 17 year old apprentice mechanic, I got one going real cheap right now.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
Ouch... :cry
I have a 15 year old sister who I am teaching to drive on our property prior to her getting her learners (we have 5 acres so plenty of room for error...I hope).
Unfortunately she still cannot grasp the concept of variable speed control (her driving style currently still involves 2 throttle settings...idle and wide open, and two brake settings...on and off :duh), and is also unable to comprehend properly what is meant by a 20kph speed limit...
I was going to teach her to drive stick in the Kombi but I am thinking this will only end in tears (she's already almost managed to put mum's auto Commodore into the carport wall once and almost into the Kombion another occasion... thank god for the handbrake! :o ), so she will be stuck on an aut forever... unless dad lets her in 10 feet of the Pajero... which is doubtful.
I'm glad I wont be the one teaching her to drive on the road... than god for P plates!
I cant really talk I guess, as I managed to stall the Kombi on an inclined corner in peak hour the first time I drove it (on L's) and could not get it to start again due to flooding of the carbs... needless to say that pissed a few folks off, and pissed dad off when I floored it and lit up the back tyres to get out of there after stalling again...
But anyway...what ya asking for that apprenticemechanic... he'd come in handy for knocking my back end down a spline or two and adjustingthe back brakes which im too lazy to do... 😂

That is not cool, i am feeling your pain my man.
This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

My Bro, just got his P's and took my folks brand new Landcruiser out to see his girlfriend (without asking the olds) and then proceeded to drive into the driveway too quick at my house and caught the rear guard on a large concrete pillar. When I picked my folks up from the airport my dad went ape-o at him, he was never allowed to drive it again.
A good mate of mine owns
www.klampit.com.au - hes got stuff to stop this problem. Ouch that hurts.

That's why first car is usually some sort of 10-15 year old disposable common small car. Colt, Barina, Corolla, Pulsar, Civic, Camira, Laser, Festiva, Excel, 121, 323
This reminds me of when I borrowed my mother's car to go to rugby practice. Instead I went to see my girlfriend and stopped thinking with my brain. I parked the car at the top of a tall hill, out of gear and without the handbrake on. I caught the car, leant into the driver's window and I was successfully steering it out of trouble until I had to let go because of a power pole that would have hit me. The car eventually stopped when it hit a pinetree head on at the bottom of the hill. Needless to say, I was grounded for months.
Appropos this discussionnof inexperienced drivers. One of the main problems on the roads in China is that nearly every driver has less than 5 years experience, hence the chaos.
yeah, i worked in a carpark for a few weeks and didnt believe some of what i saw, at underground carpark speeds i watched a woman in a newish commodore hit the rearend of a landcruiser hard enough to shift it about a meter sideways, and then a day later another woman managed to wrap her prado around a pole, she was pulling straight foward our of a carpark, the pole was just to her left infront of her and for some unknown reason just as she got to the pole she swung hard LEFT so the car went past the pole, but her front left wheel went around the OTHER side of the pole WTF!?

Just there your dead wrong !!
The hot shot mechanics that the boy works with had to ring ME to get a Karman Ghia going. The tinware was chrome & didn't have the cylinders numbered. Sort of prevents me taking one of my cars over there.. :P
The bit that pisses me off the most (aside from two damaged trucks) is, the only reason it was backed into the drive was for easy unloading of parts I'd picked up to fix HIS beetle.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
Hey Hellbus, my first car was a beetle. haha, I never did bingle it though.
I remember once at the Deakin university multi-level carpark a gimp in an older model hiace somehow got wedged between the top of the onramp up to the next level and a large concrete barrier that was up on the kerb (about 30cms in). I laughed and then wondered how they were going to get him out. Must have been doing 60km/h up that thing cos it was wedged tight.

oh god help me I'm on a roll.............🙅😵💫
hmmm sounds like #2 son needs to grow up fast and become a panel beater.
I once saw someone turn into a servo bowser too quick and hit the guard post (lucky they had the post) and struggle to get off of it. Instead of just hitting reverse they decided to turn the wheel and reverse. The more they tried, the harder the went into the post. Had a fairly large crowd of people wetting their pants.
hmm double post... the scone influence. A mate of mine entered my driveway when we were about 17 and ran into the back of my dads commodore and busted a taillight. Got away with it until he confessed at my 21st. Dont drink kiddies, can get you into lots of trouble.
Number 2 son has already done this to me once.
Playing in the bay when he was 4 or 5, shifted it into neutral & knocked the handbrake off. Rolled 4ft forward into the split. Damage to both was minimal.
Your little disciple Zac, playing in the split. The constant turning of the steering wheel worked the chock out from under the wheels.
It didn't hit Mel's Mazda, but you couldn't put you hand between them.
Thursdays effort was the one that allegedly knows how to drive.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
spook. Talking of kids releasing the handbrake and cars rolling away, I did it once to 1930s Rolls Royce.
It was the early 1950s and my dad just had been promoted to the position of a junior brewer at the Swan Brewery and because he was on 24/7 call he was entitled to a company car. The only car that was immediately available was the Managing Director's vintage Rolls, which he didn't drive because the fitting of "super balloon tyres" had made the steering too heavy for him.
It was loaned to dad while they waited for a Vauxhall Wyvern to be delivered. It was parked on the street lawn facing down a small hill. I fiddled with the hand brake and released it. I reckon my dad broke a world record when he threw down his newspaper in the living room, leaped across the front verandah, hurdled the front fence and caught the car in time. Oh! How my bum hurt for a while!
Maybe cars should be fitted with locks on the hand brakes.
Dad leapt out of the BMW to stop the horse bolting out the gate about a year or two ago and forgot to take it out of D or put on the park brake... the result being that it drove itself into a foot thick gate post and mangled the bumper, grille center, corner of the bonnet and front fender, and a $70 (:duh) indicator lense...
And back in 2001 his Saab 900 rolled down a 45 degree hill, again after he forgot to lock and chock, and belted itself into a rather mature Eucalypt tree... looked OK from the outside (only a tree shaped indentation in the back bumper to show for the hit), but the impact broke the engine mounts leaving the engine to crash into the firewall... along the way bending the steering column and destroying various other front end bits.
It surprisingly was able to still be driven back up tho and again onto the tilt-tray... didnt hit the road tho again for a good 4 months! :duh

The best story I ever heard about damaging 2 of your own vehicles was about my grandmother.
I never knew she could drive, she never drove as long as I knew her. After she passed away a heap of old photo's came my way & hers one of gran behind the wheel of a 27 chev.
My grandfather owned a fleet of buses. The story goes that one broke down & they towed it home with a 39 chev. They started working on the bus, on blocks, still chained to the chev.
Gran's gone out the front, jumped in the car, the chain pulled tight, pulled the bus off the blocks, & demolished the back of the chev.
She got out of the car, went inside & never drove again.

She had her own personal bus fleet, so it probably wasn't a challenge. :P
