Well my car is getting pretty close to paintin time and its time to settle on a scheme. I've had in my head a nice metalic purple (or perhaps two tone purple and white? But I've been told dark two tones dont look too good??? )
BUT i cant find a nice purple AND having metalic paint is going to push the price up by about $1k. That doesnt rule out metalic but I would like to have a few other options in my head to work out the best one. Doesnt have to be purple - just want something which will look good, and not "another bug painted in that scheme" etc... any ideas 😀

Personally I don't know of too many other metallic purple bugs... so ya should be right. I have seen dark two-tones go together well but I cant think of another dark color that would go well with purple...

Oh good so I wasnt wierd when I thought of purple and white then :P Do you know the name of the colour of that bug rose?? I've looked at ford "phantom" purple - i thought it would work but I saw a bug on ebay which is that colour (is on there at the moment if you want to look) and it looks too dark I think - and not as metalic as I expected either. That bottom one is pretty much the exact purple I'd be after - now I just have to find the colour name and hope I can afford it 😀

Yep, I'm bored and too much time on my hands... so here's some I prepared for earlier!
Sexy black and silver with a sweet set of 914 4-stud wheels (damn I love this one!)...
... forest green with paler green and a set of gasburners...
... new Ford purple with lilac and colour-coding the stockies with hubcaps (mmm... purple)...
... sunny yellow with lemon and a set of SA sprintstars, complete with bug reflector (guaranteed to stand out!)...
... navy blue and sky blue with some shadow-chromed Empi 5's (don't forget the roofracks for this baby!)...
... choc brown with mocha and a set of good ol' sprintstars (chocolate makes me hungry)...

either way you can still get dark and light metallic paints
purple and white go together well. just as white pretty much goes with anything
the bug on ebay i think that is the darker colour purple that ford has braught out

My Baja is maroon with black mudguards and I think it looks pretty good.
An old traditional colour scheme that was popular on English cars in the 1950s was bottle green with black mudguards. I've seen a Morris Minor that looked good in that colour scheme and a Beetle being much the same shape would look good.
It's a dark and subdued colour scheme but it is also subtle rather than, " Look at me!".
That beetle was at the DOVW Cranbourne last Nov
someone down there on the forum might know who owns it and maybe able to get a colour for you.

Hmmmmm ok I think i've narrowed it down. It'll either be like the photo helbus painted - with either that purple or the new mazda phantom purple. OR PBB's idea of a silver/black beetle..........arrrrrrghhhh i dont know :cry

I know you're not in Melb, there's lots of purple/plum/burgundy beetles here... only ever seen one Black with silver sides though.... it was so damn nice! :P

Shows how bad I am at making decisions - I've also started considering the yellow option coz this will be a daily driver and yellow wont show up scratches as much as black or purple! I really need to make a decision and stick with it no matter what 😀

If you go the B5 it will still be pretty unique as ours was written off by an inconsiderate third party.

I'm going to talk to my painter and see what he says - ease of painting etc - but I think I'm going to go with either the sparkling burgundy and white - though I just want to see a car that colour in the flesh first - or a bright yellow with white doors - similar to PBBs yellow idea but without the lemon (have put in an example pic) ... sigh once I finally settle on an exterior colour scheme I gotta think of one for inside.. the decisions never end! (then comes the new wheels.. etc etc 🙅🥲 )
