just by luck I had Hols at right time to come up from Sydney to Dubs by the pub, only realised about a week before, checked oil & tightened wheel nuts on Peach, left 0530 Friday Morning, met up with Byron Bug & Dub74L at 2.30 PM at Byron Bay & went throuigh absolutely horrific traffic in Brissie, to arrive at Dicky Beach (Caloundra) at 6pm , lots of wind and rain, but everybodies tents stayed up. Sat was spent further north at the Eumundi markets, where I could not find anything to buy except food, I rode up WITH DUB74L in his really nice L bug, first time I had been in one, makes earlier beetles seem really agricultural.
That night at the surf club I managed a huge win of $18 on 1c pokie, I would not normally gamble, but was under huge pressure from a large group of Dubbers.
More winds rain all night, but verything dried out enough OK for people to pack up early Sunday morning, we got to the Pub about 9.30 by which time most bargains & goodies seemed to have already disappeared from the Swap, - twas very exciting to see such a huge amount of cars , that I had never set eyes on before, & meet lots of people from Forum,
Lots of ladies were getting their photo taken with my car, I should have charged for it to subsidise petrol money-
Stayed at a friends in Brisbane Sunday night, & LEFT 6.40 Monday morning for home, again battling traffic & heaps of roadworks on Pacific Hwy, but still made it home 7pm Sydney time (6pm QLD time) moving average speed was 88.5kmh & including stops 82 kmh, that was acheived cruising at 102 kmh
34.5 mpg total cost for fuel was about $205 which wasn't bad
had a really great time thanks to all the people involved, both new friends & old, bonus was also meeting Brad Sinclair, who originally had the car restored

Wow, that's a big trip for the pub run. There was actually not many buggies there compared to normal. I think the rain scared them away.
PS - the traffic is always really bad on Friday arvo heading up the coast from Brizzy.

12 hours! I did it in 1.5 and it only cost me $79
🙂 ... though you would have had more leg and shoulder room than me
🙁 .. but I had beer
🙂... though I had a screaming kid in front
🙁... but I had aircon
🙂.
Hell of a lot of offroaders compared to down this way. Probably due to us mostly not being allowed to go offroad. Sweet splittie kombis but not enough nice original ovals but very nice pies from Beefy's.
your my hero kim, no one does roadtrips like you 🙂

One man's junk...
Well done that man,
and too think that I was feeling wussy from too much beer with Amazeer the night before and almost didn't do the one hour drive to the Pub. Well done, thats dedication!!
'Ah, whatever................'
hey, dont go blaming me
I don't have much leg room, coulda been drinking beer , could also have had a kid in front, but probably dangerous.
all up including $ 5 worth of fudge (queue was too long at beefies) & subtracting $18 win on pokies the whole four days cost me about $360 - I just like driving the car, that is what they are for, seeing how fast, versus how much fuel what I can overtake or hold off etc, it is all fun, this time I decided to wave at every kombi on the highway, only 2 waved back & another waved first, alll the others just stared. max speed reached was 122kmh tryiing to hold off a P-plater that was severely pissed off at the fact I had just overtaken him, I think his mates in the car must have had a go at him
