Was wanting to run T-bars on my bug, but by doing so i remove any location where i can fit my number plate without drilling into my body.
is it possible to run no number plate up front with T-bars in NSW?
Or am i going to have to find a way to fit them?

it's not legal in victoria either...but i've never been picked up for them.

i made a bracket, that runs from one bumper hole, and another bracket that runs down from the headlight bolt tab that holds the headlight in place. There's a rubber stopper behind the plate so that it's not directly on the paint, either.

you can kinda see it here -> http://rupewrecht.com/vw/vw_lowered_quarry3.jpg

I'm don't usually say this, but I can't see how they risk the car or the public any more than having no bumpers at all...which is a setup I had for some time. I'd put them on, if a cop defects you and can tell you why, Ie, a specific ADR or something, then just take em off. I'd say people have got a lot more serious things to worry about than T bars, like for instance a lack of front shocks or dangerous brake conversions...👎

any after market fitting attached to the exterior of a vehicle that could cause injury to a person comming into contact with that part of vehicle is a no no eg fishing rod holders , particular concern are items protruding forward of the bumper or bull bar,
vehicles built prior to 1st jan1965 where the fitting such as bonnet ornaments was fitted by the original vehicle manufacturer ar ok

there just a dangerous protrusion
same reason i have to remove my eyebrows each year for rego
think about it a TBar or a bumper hitting someone in the chin which is gonna hurt more LOL

my 70 bug has tbars
there are 2 small screw holes for the number plate just under the valance- not noticable when its off
u supposed to run standard bumpers or no bumpers just no tbars but its not something thats policed real much
depends on the person doing ur pinkslip

do some people have pics of their T-bar(nerf bar) set-ups? wiht number plates

I just think running nothing in those gaps looks a bit silly, I spose I could always remove them each year for rego.

you're right cal68, the pic that DUB74L posted is a nudge bar.
below is a pic of my car with T bars.
A friend here in S.A. had his car defected partially cos it had T bars.
I've been running T bars and no front number plate and have been lucky enough to get away with it for 2 years (touch wood).
The way I figure it is that if someone is that close to my car that the bumper would hit them, then they've probably got more to worry about than getting whacked in the shin.
I also ran eyelids on my splitty for ages, and on a Bay kombi too, no hassles.

particular concern are items protruding forward of the bumper or bull bar
the main concern is when you are driving and you may hit somebody
eg eye lids on head lights may cut a nice chuck ob meat off a way ward kid on a push bike and fishing rod holders may go right into somebody's chest we know if you get hit buy a car it will hurt but a nice piece of steel sticking into your heart is going to hurt more

I had them on my 63 bug.
I never had a plate on the front only the rear and i paid the price.
I was defected for not displaying the plates, but i was not defected for the front T bars, but the rears.
because someone could now burn them selves on the muffler.
I cut the tip off the muffler which then sat flush under the rear guard and that was enough and they past that.
I had to drill holes in one of the guards to mound the plate on.
That was in NSW

In all seriousness, if someone was to be hit by a car hard enough for the eyebrows or t bars to injure them, then I am sure that they already will be injured enough by being hit by the rest of the car .....

ms. cabrio. I agree with you. By the time the eyebrows or T bars are hurting a pedestrian they have been, almost certainly seriously injured, by the rest of the car.

I have the same problem with the Manx SR that I am building. The bonnet hinges at the front and the traditional way to hold the bonnet closed is with bonnet pins and clips near the windscreen. The ADRs say that no bonnet pins may protrude for pedestrian safety so I have fitted after market Ford XY GT bonnet clips which do not protrude. They look OK but they are not the real thing, but I'm stuck with it.

Surely you would rather be hit with some flat object spreading the load at 5km hr, something flat will not hurt like a t bar at 5kmh or an eyebrow
you are lessening the chance of someone walking away from a bump with these protrusions.
and remember if your insurance company can get out of paying they will......
Keeping it real !

Please do not bring your beetles to me for a rego check or blue slip with items protruding forward of the bumper.:o :thumb .the rta says when passing a defect its best to take a picture of the car then if the owner changes it back after the inspection the owner gets the greif from police or insurance company because sure as shit when something goes wrong people seem to try to blame somebody else:o

Insurance companies ask whether there are any protrusions from Your car...

a T bar is certainly dangerous...
a nice soft beetle bonnet is a nice soft place to land...

Some locals have run T bars for years...

but they know that its bumpers or No bumpers only....

as new cars don't really have any bumpers....

So..............If you miss them with the Tbars................ then there is no chance of hitting them with the flying Vw emblem..........but you're always in with a chance with the Thermadoor...... ......but don't forget to reverse over them with you're Fat Boy Muffler while chopping them upwith your cambered 165s Michelins.................

Soft? Clearly you need to be beaten around the head with one to remind you just how hard they are. :P
