I was reading Steve-89's thread about being in hospital & recovering in the kiddies ward. I didn't want to shang-hai that thread so I thought I'd start this.

I'm not talking waking up in the local cell after a hard night (although I wouldn't like to count how often I did that).

I spoke to a doctor after my 5th was born about preventing a 6th. Because it was elective surgery, don't hold my breath waiting. That was a Thursday.
The following Monday I get a call that because of a flu doing the rounds, 3 operations had been cancelled the Tuesday & was I prepared to be done the next day, in a small country hospital. No problem.

The bit I wasn't told, that the three cancellations were all women & they had three beds set aside for them.

The end result. A 250 pound man, all hair & tattoos, recovering from a vasectomy, IN THE MATERNITY WARD.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.

A few months ago i found myself hanging from the side door of an RAAF Caribou holding on for dear life.
It was a very turbulant flight and i was despatching some troops off the ramp when the plane bucked and a paratrooper knocked me backwards towards the open side door.
My partner was quick enough to grab a hold of my safety chute harness before i was totally out the door.

I went to Melbourne. Then I went back. I did it a dozen times. That was pretty odd. Hmm I've been to Brisbane a few times too. I dunno how anyone can live/drive there. Very very odd.

I flaked out in the waiting room of sydney eye hospital after a heavy night drinking at the cross.

I know someone who fell asleep in toilets at Windang Bowlo and wasnt found. She woke up in a deserted club and called 000 on phone behind the bar.

I spent a lot of time sitting out the back of Pizza Hut on my engagement party night while everyone else ate inside. I had a group of young kids circling like vulchers on bicycles just waitng for me to finally pass out (due to some over enthusiastic drink mixing by some vee dubbers) And then I went to a gay bar on my Bucks night.

Spent the night in labour ward because my wife wouldnt let me go home even though there was no chance of our baby coming (induction didnt work) couldnt sleep because of moaning women walking up and down turning lights off and on etc, then wifey let me go home for 1 1/2 hrs sleep, 1/2 hr drive each way. then no food or drink for next 12 hours it was a struggle to be let out for toilet breaks. Thanks Darl. Having the first kid... you dont know better. Anyone who has more than 1 kid is a nutter.

Speaking of which, I've been in a psych ward full of anorexics talking about nothing but food for hours and hours.

In 1973 when I was reading for my degree at the ANU in Canberra, I was living in the shearers' quarters of a farm called Sharrow, near Bungendore.

One night we had a session of tequila, salt and lemon. I disappeared and was found an hour later down at the farm house, with my arms around the neck of the bewildered sheep dog who was at the limit of his chain in an effort to get away from me, bawling my eyes out and gibbering all sorts of nonsense.

I have no memory of how I got there, but I distinctly remember being found by a bunch of equally drunk students all of whom were loudly shooshing each other so as to not disturb the farmer.

If there is one thing that I should not do it's to get smashed on spirits. I'm a tedious and maudlin drunkard.

Seriously though I found myself tangled up in a barbed wire fence once after too much drink and still carry the scars thirty years down the track! Also I remember a job I took as a photographer in Kenya for 3 months when I'd only owned a camera for about three months prior to going! All I could think was " How did I get myself into this!" Or how about standing in the middle of a club in Brixton (South London) and being the only white bloke there. Funny thing was I always got served quickly as I think the guys behind the bar thought I must be mentally deranged-BTW I went there with a load of black mates and I stand 6'4" (without heels😉)with blond hair👍

following directions on a friends hand drawn map, to a botanical garden on the border of italy and monte carlo. I slipped down a cliff face and landed on a nudist beach thats was full of nothing but old gay men. Ive never been whistled or winked at more than that day. Awkward at the time, hilarious since.

whilst i was travellign with my canadian buddies in north QLD we took a rather random sidetrack off the highway and ended up driving through a cloud layer into a tiny town in which the only thing open was a tourist/coffee shop whos owner was a canadian indian fanatic (both of the canadians with me had indian blood) that was fun. that was the day after we were in mount Isa and after a wild goosechase for the grave of one of the canadians great uncles (we didnt even know which cemetary to begin in) we found not only the grave, but a $600 bill as his mate who arranged the funeral 40 years ago neer got around to paying!

Wandering drunkenly around Sydney with a few mates late one night in the late '70s we stopped in the alcove of a large office block for "a quick joint".

Afterwards we crossed the road and looking back realised the office block was in fact Sydney's police headquarters!!!!

Goodness so may odd places I can't say lol

OK in India...was at a stage when I was tied of tauts wanting me to stay in their hotel as I got off a bus....arrived in Pushka..got off the bus and kept walking and ignoring the tauts....walked past the lake and gats..the temples and food......walked out into the desert and wondered whether I should turn back when out of thw sand dunes came a couple of erchins saying they could take me to 'The Rose Garden Cottage'...I said fine..Stayed in a grass hut and was feed by the couple who grew the roses for the temples...we sat around their adobe hut in which the wife cooked over an adobe oven...had ginger tea with milk fresh from the goat outside the hut mmmmmmm...sat on the floor cross legged talking to them and an American off their faces on ganga couple...toilet was in the garden...anywhere..it was amazing to go walking in the sand dunes...try to take a pic of kids and they would want money....it was a bit wonderful and weird at the same time...I did move into town after a couple of days R & R and got myself a room in an old palace...in a tower with amazing vews...sprinkled rose petals in the wonderful window alcoves and lite candles and generally blended in for a couple of weeks lol

Sat in a cafe with an American woman writer, bought paw paw off a fruit seller passing by...ate the fruit and rubbed the skin over our faces cos she said it was amazingly good for your skin...it was

Hey I was straight the whole time until a guy gave me a bung lassi...but that's another story

while in america for vw stuff 2 years ago ...

found myself in the middle of a all black strip club in the heart of compton with my (*asshole) father while he was wearing his akubra and some kinda of golf club looking vest

wondered why the guy at the door was laughing so hard when my dad replied "I use to come here all the time years ago" to the securitys question of "are you guys ok?"
