What anti theft devices are people running in there cars. Apart from the old kill-switch what devices are used in vw's. Imobilizers? Fuel cut-off's?.
my rotty loves to go for i drive and scare the shit out of people having too close a look when its parked .
i started with nothing and have most of it left !

now that would be giving away a trade secret! 🙂 I was thinking of hooking up rick astley's greatest hits to the stereo so that it could not be turned off in event of theft...then again, the chance of some sick asshole liking that is rare but probable. Perhaps the old ink dye bomb mixed with vomit would be a good one...let the thieving b#$%rd get a hundred metres down the road and...BLAMMO! stink and pink 🙂

Rubber dog turd left on seat.
Matt.
I'll break with the theme of this thread and post a serious response.
I have a remote alarm with battery back-up siren, 2 level shock sensor, current monitoring and ignition / startet immobiliser.
It's also got central locking but I haven't been able to make the solenoids work with the heavy VW locks. I have some more heavy duty solenoids to try.

i have the only manx's on the island:P
its just a car for f*%k sake
I run an alarm system with shock, ign, voltage and door pin sensors, battery back up etc etc. Have also fitted remote central locking...
baja wes a $20 kit i got of ebay has worked fine for me on both of my vw's, no signs of a struggle at all.
if a theif really wants ur car and knows what their doing then without spending massive $$ its going to be a bit of effort to prevent the theift. But for under $200 you can reduce severity and occurence of opportunistic thiefs (the ones that smash your 1/4 window for $2 change and your head unit face... worth less than the repair of the window!)
the uniqueness of vw's is a bonus, its alot harder to steal and quickly sell and would take a long time to part out any vw to gain any serious profit.
someone told me about a friend of their aunties ex flatmate who had run power from the coil to the crotch position of the drivers seat (obviously with a hidden switch) so as when the ignition was turned on the would be thief gets a tazer like effect. if anyone has the know how to set this up im very interested! :thumb

You can always take the rotor button with you...it's a pain in the bum to have to take out and replace everytime but the chances of a thief carrying your specific rotor is unlikely and worth it to keep your VW YOURS! Rats also rarely get looked at by thieves unless you have a million stickers announcing the goodies your Ride has on it. Wheel nut locks are a MUST, whatever rims you have and finally, take your face plate with you or put that stonkin head unit in the glovebox or under seat and leave an empty glove box as if there's nothing to steal anyway. Prevention is better than nothing.

i recently went away on holiday, and my beetle was to be left in our driveway unattended for a week and a half, on a very busy street, in a town known for car theft.
i took the rotor button out, and locked the doors and engine decklid.
got home last week and the decklid had been forced open, and both the doors had been broken into (via 1/4 glass)
if i hadnt of taken the rotor button out, my precious would be long gone.
Actually I like rick ashley. Maybe I shouldn't admit to that. lol

ive got a rhino system in my bug now with immobilisor, remote central locking, shock sensor blah blah blah
i put it in about 5 years ago cos at the time my stereo was worth more than my bug was but i know its not gonna do much these days
its been proven many times now ppl just ignore car alarms these days and its true how many ppl do u see actually stop and take notice of an activated car alarm?.....
in my first bug i got one of those huge isolation switches with the removable key and connected it to the pos side of the battery
abit easier than removing the rotor all the time

unfortunately unless the wires were sticking through the seat you wouldnt tazer, you would torch the seat and blow up the battery, as you would connect a wire from the seat to a kill switch in it and a connection to a powersource triggered by the ignition or better yet use the ignition trigger wire to trigger a relay on a wire that runs direct to the battery, would bake a very hot seat very quick, unfortunately may also torch your car.
i have a simple alarm on mine, hooked upto period TWIN AIRHORNS!
👍

I had a strong plastic covered motorcycle lock up cable bolted to the floor by the passenger's seat, in my buggy. I tangled the steering wheel up in it with a padlock. It was very obvious. The buggy also had a basic imobiliser with the little black doover that is fitted ito the whatsit on the dash to make it possible to start the car.
I'm about to fit a cable to my chop top Baja.
on my baja i use the following
engine cut off
fuel cut of switch----- both are lil switches under the carpet on the side of the tunnel which is really hard to find unless you know where it is 🙂
coil cut of switch-----
and a standard steeringlock
🙂
Love is a Rotary baja bug
Just be carefull

club locks are a waste of time.
I had two kill switches in the kombi, one for power to the +ve for the coil- obvious, one for the electric fuel pump- hidden.
I never locked it either, saves smashed windows of munched locks. The kelpie was left in it with the windows down often. Would have the door left open on occasion but never got taken
My beautiful red celica used to get nicked regular- parked on road in th 80's in Adelaide (its ok) in the late 80's, I had a timer on the kill switch, 8 seconds, could get a bit up the road and all the electrics died. all of em. Cops used to ring the Royal Adelaide to tell me my car was left in the middle of the road again.....
kkk

Thanks for the reply's. I think i will go for the fuel cut off solenoid. Alarms just don't have the impact anymore. The kombis electrics are pretty basic so the kill switch can be easily overridden. With the fuel cut off they are only going to make it as far as fuel in the carbies let them.
Aaron
Aaron, a fuel cut off also gives you added bonus if you have a fire -just flick the switch to cut the fuel.
Sioux, sorry to hear your pride and joy was damaged at least you still have your VW...Rose, it doesn't matter that you like Rick, some people still rock out to Hasslehoff and that's okay if you like ole Tubby. I guess people should take whatever precautions they need to and back it up with comprehensive insurance. It's expensive and almost not worth it... till something happens...Jacksc, go and get your VW insured and do a little of each of the above posts, better to have more than not enough. There will always be someone who wants what you have and they don't! Good luck mate 🙂

ahhh yeah i have a kill switch on the drivers side just under the dash on the right side of the headlight switch but before you turn it on you have to press the brake pedal then turn on the wiper switch(of course its not the real wiper switch) i paid heaps to the auto electrician to devise this system but he said no one would ever have the brains to work it out especially in smith street sydneyvill sydney where my car is parked for hours on end every monday through saturday cos i start work at 700 and dont finish until 330 in the morning😁😁😁
but all you guys on avd wont tell anyone will ya cos i have all my savings for the deposit on a house under the passenger seat --cos i dont trust banks
How about
1. a small canister of battery acid under the dash run through a small pump to the horn button that houses a squirter/mister triggered by the unlawful use of the dummy ign
2.isolated dummy ign barrel hooked up to an efi coil pack(that also runs the acid pump)
3.a sharp barbed rod you can place under the seat when you park you pride n joy. Long enough to go from the floor(beetle) wheel arch(kombi) of the vehicle to the underside of the top of the seat(before it compressed)
i know what your thinking.....
there not going to turn the ign on after being impaled on the barbed rod.....but
seeing as its barbed they cant leave and thus must try and get away....thats when they get shocked and blinded
pls note DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME NO RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN REGARDING THIS POST

A simple kill switch, fited by the bloke I bought it off, never been stolen but then never been left alone so prob don't count
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!
I always carry a Club steering wheel lock in the car,and I have a key for it on my key ring, not because they are effective in locking a car but because they are the only way that you can legally carry a weapon in a car.
If the cops find a baseball bat or a truncheon in your car you can be in trouble if they want to be punctilious (there's that word again) but if you have a Club you are OK. So far, I've never needed it.
A kill switch on the coil can be good for your engine too!!! Get yourself in the habit of not flicking the switch until you've cranked enough to make the oil pressure light go out and you're always starting with a well lubed engine.
Matt.

not quite the only option, those huge maglites are also OK and not a 'weapon', they are solit as hell and nicely balanced. thats why security carries them.

lol, good point!
