Ever wondered how a Kombi would fair in a collision with a modern car... say... a little softoader like a Rav 4?.... well wonder no more... 🙁
Long story short, it's pouring down rain, a Rav 4 driver brakes suddenly to rubberneck at an accident that had occured between a Honda and a Statesman at the Central Ave/Princes Hwy roundabout in Nowra, I brake to avoid hitting him, hit a slick (which it turned out had caused the Honda to hit the Statesman), lock up, and plow straight into the Rav with 1600kg of loaf-shaped german engineering.
The pics give a good account of the damage BC took... surprisingly little for a 40ish kph impact...
The Rav 4 had the back glass totally obliterated, the tailgate stove in to the point of probably requiring replacement, and the bumper/nudgebars destroyed by the hit.
Luckily nobody was hurt, and surprisingly the Rav was still drivable after the crash (even after being apparenly lifted into the air by BC), with the damage seemingly contained to the gate and bumper. This means I keep my license and we were all able to drive home under our own steam.
The bit that shits me tho is that the damage could have been far less extensive had the Rav not had a ridiculous spare tyre on the back... the damage to the tailgate was caused by the alloy wheel being shoved into it at 40 k's, and the same can be said for the dent in my front apron. Had the tyre not been there, we both would more than likely have gotten away with bent bumpers and not much else! :cussing:
This is not the most fucking helpful thing to happen 2 weeks before rego is due! :puke:

Pay your debts, CxxT
is life trying to tell you something about the front end of your bus? didn't you hit a kangaroo last year?
good to hear everyone is ok and your kombi will live.

Yep, hit a roo back in September... note the primer... havent even fixed the results of that tangle properly yet, and now I have another one! 🙁
I think from this point on, an appropriate nickname for BC would be Ol' Nosejob! :duh

buggar indeed, at least the damage doesnt look bad enough to mess with your rego. lucky nothign inside went flying. maybe time to do a defensive driving course in the old girl, learn about avoiding and controlling slides etc.

Hahahahaha, poor Buttercup... got her little nose squished.
Glad you were ok though and that damage is only cosmetic. Yay for rear-engines!
that sucks man. at least the rav4 got some serious damage. Nice mosquito collection on the front of BC by the way 🙂
bloody P platers!
clean her dash.....wash/wipe down her front...all those mozzie...she wasnt hitting the other car, just swatting some pesky insects!
BUt having said that...glad ur ok and no one was hurt.
Pity about BC needing more primer...but I am happy to paint a flower or two there instead if u like far nicer than a bit of primer :P
dubless. 🥲

Drive backwards for a while 😀
Futue te ipsum!!!
Now i know this may sound a little harsh but for peat sake your driving a BLOODY BIG BRICK ,so learn from your mistakes and leave more room between yourself and others and be thankfull it wasn't a higher speed impact which severs your legs in a vehicle such as a kombi.
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

only true if what you hit hits the kombi above bumperline, if it impacts the bumper the old girls are pretty damn solid, as a few guys on here can attest.

Yep not wrong there... altho a lowlght would be a slightly diferent story. :duh
And I see where ya coming from Andy.... altho in this case I had at least 3 car lengths between me and the Rav. but all the same your advice is noted and appreciated. 🙂 👍
had it not been for the rubbernecking of the other party tho, the accident probably would have been avoided altogether without me having to maintain a road-trains distance between me and them.
But what's done is done and I now have to just try and be real nice to BC so she stops playing silly-buggers... I get the feeling she's slightly pissed off still as she decided to dump her entire fuel load on me this afternoon. 😠
Such is life....
And DOnna I may have to take you up on the offer of flowers to cover up th ever increasing area covered by primer! 😂

You should re-name it Jackson with that many nose jobs!
C'mon kids gather round,
there's a new sensation hitting town,
It's moving straight, low to the ground,
it'll pick you up when your feeling down.
i think you need some yanky style bumpers with the big springy bits inside, but honestly that must suck:cussing hope BC gets better soon🙂

Schmo I think we have just found irrefutable proof that 3 car lengths is not enough for you and next time you will need to leave 4 car lengths. This one is your fault as the police and your insurance company will no doubt tell you.
