Hi Guys,
I recently put a 1776 in my 62 bug.
do i need an engineers certificate to get it registered. can i get away with not having to put disk breaks on it ?
it is currently un registered.
Looking to make a herbie replica, HELP ME.
Yep you will be right go get it rego'd.
This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

depends
technically.........
You are allowed a 15% increase. A 1962 was a 1200 so a 1776 is greater than a 1200 by almost 50%
Yes for the disc breaks.
Now.... i doubt anyone "looking" at the car would know the difference. But as it will need a blue slip they will do a motor check and i reckon they will see the motor "should" be a 1600.
A 1962 with a 1600 should have disc breaks added.
I would WANT disc breaks in a 1962 with a 1776
Futue te ipsum!!!
I agree with Bizarre. Get it disc braked and get it engineered. Sure the rego inspector probably won't know a 1776 from a dual port 1300, but for peace of mind and insurance that won't get cancelled, do it properly. Also, you can talk to the engineer about giving you the potential for a 1916 or larger in the future when he writes out your certificate. 😉
