dude, u2u the potential buyer if it's an issue. coz if you slag off the seller it can be a legal issue. a mate of mine just got sued coz he was the administrator of a website where someone posted some negative stuff about an organisation. when they couldn't take the poster down, they went after him. it's cost him thousands of $$$ and even more stress and lost sleep. he nearly lost his house. now you understand why they edited your posts.
This is an arguement that will never be solved no matter how hard moderators try. Unfortunately we can not please everyone - we're damned if we do (edit) and we're damned if we don't (edit).
At the end of the day we have to act in a way that ensures the longevity of the AVD forum - unfortunately at times this means deleting/editing certain posts.....and at times leaving stuff up that we think should be deleted.
I get sick and tired of the old "one of the fold" opinions - I am not part of any VW club, I moderate in a way that is consitent across all members regardless of how long they have been here, or who they are associated with. I can't stand broad-brushed generalised insinuations, but such is life.
I rarely add fuel to the fire to threads like this, but there are times the moderators have to defend themselves......I'd like to see how long AVD would last if we all just hang up our hats, and Jim, Andrew and Brad said "bugger it, too much hassle, why bother rebooting....or spending hours and hours changing servers.....or going through the logs to sort out the behind the scenes issues". It would be much easier for us, but then that would be penalising all the members who do the right thing, so we cop the abuse, and do our best to keep AVD alive. My apologies if our efforts are not good enough.
Alan
I agree with you Allan, but don't feel the need to appologise to people who constantly whine about nothing. If "some people" think it is that bad (moderation) then go elsewhere.
Fastyman66..your contributions to the post which was suspended were negetive.Your opinions, wheather you think them to be wright or wrong should have been kept to yourself. The sellers thread is their thread and comments left, if left at all, should be kept posetive.
As one of the sometimes loathed admins I should also point out that we usually act in response to complaints made by the members using the "report post" tool.
If your posts were fine then people wouldn't be reporting it and requesting it to be removed.
So it isn't the select groups of moderators and admin, we just act on the requests of the members as a whole (or try our best to please the majority).
Here we go again--and----again -----and ---again-- etc this entire argument could be solved by setting up a "Vendors and Products" section similar perhaps to the Ausrotary forum concept got a bitch about something buying/selling --well there you go--doesn't interfere with brer rabbit and the fluffy duck feel goods atall--free choice--don't like it ?-- don't go there, suggested it before ---got rubbished--oh yup---and that thread was eventualy deleted too, AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRggghpppp
Whats the use,
Al.
Oh yup-- while I'm here --I'm still not gettin topic reply email notifications haven't since the great crash of 06.

Quoted from another post, Im sick of a minority of opportunistic whiners like you.
These sort of comments get nowhere, fan flames, encourage trolls etc.
The only Mod I know is Dasdubber, a fair and good bloke (payment later please) so I am not one of the group rushing in to support.
Mods get accused of everything except being nice. When they do what is needed to keep the forum going whether you like it or not.
With posts like yours above what do you expect them to do?
My advice is ask for your money back and start your own forum run the way YOU want it to. When you get swamped in legal sh!t because one forum member said another one is..... and he sues you may want to have your house in another name. Yes it isnt fair but this is the legal situation that forums are in. Like I said before, vote with your feet!
Otherwise build a bridge and get over it.

Personally I've had nothing but positive experiences with AVD since I joined & if I did have any problems I just sent a email to the appropiate Mod and all was done!
As we all know litigation is becoming rife in this country thanks to the legal boffins in the States. It is a minefield out their and one has to "cover one's ass!"
Seriously, the only problem I have ever had on this forum was dealt with swiftly, courteously and with deference to me as the topic author. The admins behave admirably when it comes to dealing with the myriad of crap spewed up by soap boxers, they should be congratulated for their diligence in following up all the petty little bitches people seem to invest far too much time in.
If you don't like the way things are run, join another forum. Simple really.
Oh, and if you're not interested in actually buying the item for sale, mind your own business and refrain from making derogatory comments based on personal opinions or experiences in that thread, thats what u2u is for, if you feel your two cents is so absolutely valid.

A POSSE AD ESSE.
I live in my own little world, but it's okay, they know me here.
If it wasn't for the work that the mods and the admin folk do for AVD, we'd all be working on our cars and/or watching telly (Big brother 2007 has started and it ain't pretty..don't go there folks....). You only realise what you have when it's taken from you. If you use the propper channels then you can still get your point across without treading on anyones toes. Everyone says something they regret from time to time, it called 'life' and you only get one shot at it. Buckle up, sit back, relax and SMILE!!! I'd rather be a happy bugger and die tommorw than a miserable sod and live to 100!:party

If you can't fix it with a hammer,
you have an electrical problem....
Maybe do here with the buy and sell section as what i have had to do on another car forum. the seller posts up his for sale item. Mods notice it and close it. you are interested??? U2U the seller. If the item/car gets sold then the seller contacts admin and they post in the thread that item/car is sold and then re-closes the thread.
stops all the crap and spamming of someones buy/sell thread. simple.....
ACCEPT THAT SOME DAYS YOU ARE THE PIDGEON AND SOME DAYS YOU ARE THE STATUE
Brendann, we tried that method once but the members voted overwhelmingly against it and wanted it back the way it is now where people can post replies in for sale threads.
fastyman66 wrote:I too think the mods do a great job, but because of this are they unable to receive critisism, advice or recommendations???
If we were "unable to receive critisism, advice or recommendations" then this thread would have been closed and deleted by now.
Compared to other forums I am on this one is pretty tolerant and only steps in when needed. There is a large enough group of mods that they will question each other if one gets out of line.
And there is always discussion on how to improve things, sometimes in the open forum, and sometimes in the moderators paradise section.
