Hi guys im after a deluxe badge (possibly 2) with most if not all pins intact. The badge im talking about looks like the one on the right side of this decklid;

I think they came on Aussie built bugs and type 3's from the mid 60's

Cheers,

Muz

I disagree, i have three different type 3' pictures too prove so and had a discussion on the samba about it and it seems it was a 65 aussie notch thing.

I'm happy to provide my evidence to the non believers

bam! (this one is mine when i purchased it)

All aussie 65 notch's with "E" model interior but "S" chrome body strips and a single carb engine

All a little too much of a coincidence dont you think?

Anyways back to the ad, anyone got some deluxe badges?

hmmm that sucks, might be a bit difficult to come across then.

Anyone know a way of putting pins back on badges then in case nobody comes up with a badge for me?

Maybe so but until i see evidence that they definantly weren't put on Australian Type 3 notchbacks in 1965 then i would have to say by my 3 pics, especially the white one on a trailer that came from someone's personal collection and by the looks of things is completely untouched, that they were a "aussie" thing.

How did you go about repairing the merc badge bushed?

>All aussie 65 notch's with "E" model interior but "S" chrome body strips and a single carb engine<

If the OZ built model had "S" on it from the factory, it had twin carbs and was advertised as "The Twin S" with only the extended tail lights different externally to the N. Internally it had single colour vinyl on seats rather than the old David Jones variety from 64.

If the green one above from North Carolina is an Australian S it has the wrong bumpers as the OZ built ones didn't have overriders on them. At no time did I see any S, OZ or German import with "Deluxe" on them but of course, everyone is known to be wrong at sometime! Maybe Lannock Motors added a bit more to some of the vehicles to make them more upmarket! If they didn't, then certainly owners over the years have added some trim which are now thought to be original!

The green one from above has had the "S" number plate light put on it as i have spoken to the owner about the car and i'm actually asking for 2 of the deluxe badges because he is after one also.

The "deluxe" badge definantly could have been a dealership thing put on the vehicles i dont deny that but after seeing a few OZ built 65 notch's with the badge and a decklid with the holes in the exact same spot i think that it was definantly either VW Australia or a dealership that put them on.

Even the little clips and round washer type things that keep the badges on the "deluxe" badge were exactly the same as the "volkswagen 1500" badge.

Plus i think its kind of cool and unique thing and not unlike something VW Aus would do.

Oh yer i came to find out that both mine and the green notch both have oval window style rear ashtrays just like the oz "deluxe" beetles instead of the type 3 rear ashtray.
