Hi I'm looking a good L-bug gearbox for my IRS conversion. Preferably in SE QLD or Nth NSW.

Cheers Benno

What is your budget?
Do you have one you could rebuild?
I see that Mick Motors stocks new 3.88 crownwheel and pinions.

I think the going rate around these parts is what you could get from a wreckers,
but most have reverse gear rooted.
So may be best to get an earlier tranny, and perhaps at a later date change the ratios or diff.

Thanks for the suggestions Dangerous, I don't have a box at this stage but it looks like bushed has a couple.

If I had done a rebuild before on a box I'd probably go that way, but I havn't so was looking for a good local box.

Neither of those will have 3.88. They will be 4.125.
A good 3.88 used tranny is hard to find for any amount
and this is why I suggested an older tranny with the new 388 gears.

Keep looking you never know what is about.

I would guess a good used one that has quiet bearings and with working reverse to be worth around
350 to 700 dollars.(this is what I have see here in the classifieds).

A correct rebuild with new bearings and reverse gear may add 700 to 1000 to that,
so you can see how things can get out of hand real fast.

See if you can test drive a used one.
