Well this is the result of a Kombi and a six foot grey kangaroo coming together - neither survived very well. The incident occurred driving back from Townsville to Brisbane last week. The bugger was so tall his head cracked the top of the windscreen!
Good news? The family is okay and the A Pillar on the bus is not bent. Bad news? I need a new front clip and a new front passenger door.
May I ask if anyone has a donor bus with a near new front clip and a passenger door to fit a '77 Bay Window Bus (not any earlier than '76 as the hinge bracket is different) to contact me either via email: editor@vwma.net.au or by phone 0419 735 596.
I feel your pain, I hit a decent size roo about 2 months ago in my beetle, destroyed the bonnet, pushed the apron back against the spare tyre & smashed a headlight, hit him at 100kms & it spun me around 360 degrees. I was fairly concerned at the time.
Cheers
Brendan
Yeah it can get pretty hairy. After greeting the front, this one went under the rear wheel and pushed the bus into the next lane towards an on coming car. Somehow I got the bus back onto my side. The speed limit for the road was 100km/h, but because of the potholes and general poor condition of the surface during this section of the road, I was only doing 70km/h. Imagine......
My old man took my bug for a spin at night and was flying down the gravel road and hit a roo and caved my number plate to bits and caved front clip in result? Sagging front end and thats my 63 craig!!! Not happy:cussing but cant blame the old man, not his fault!
Pretty scarey isn't it.......I hit one in my dualcab (when I had one) in exactly the same spot just outside of Makay...except it's head smashed the windscreeen as well and the front left light got pushed in badly.Bloody thing got up and hopped away. We breed them big up here...would appear they dont like blue Dual cab Kombi's !!!! NEVER swerve to miss a fluffy little animal...the loss of vehicle control could kill you. I usually line them up "dead" center and move the car so they hit on the passenger side.Thats hard to do when they jump out at you (like trees do in a buggy...) Bloody rats..😠
^ what they said. **Looks*** from the one pic to be a much simpler repair than replace the clip.
If you do replace the clip (or anyway) you are obliged to take lots of photos and put it here and in the mag.
If you are going to the trouble of doing the clip you know you should fit a split front 😉

Damn spring loaded bush rats!
Can only say I was lucky when I hit one in a beetle, he was on the crouch and hit right where there were lots of curved metal (bumper bracket area). Trashed my heater by going under the car though.
Good luck Craig, best thing is that you got away without physical injury.

had to swerve to the right side of the road up to the gutter cause the bastard kept running towards the car...
Chris ! dont swerve for small animals !
I once swerved for a dog...got her up on two wheels
not a nice sensation....dog lived...my jocks didnt !🙅
HAHA, i shouldn't have... but it was a 50k road, and i didn't want to bust up my plastic 90's car... was a quiet raod... and there was no other traffic around. I just don't have the time or the money to repair the thing, and only have CTP and 3rd party.
almost hit a dog the other night, fluffy thing, i flinched... then i started chasing it off the road cause i was pissed off...
Tried to run ova a cat too when it was on the road... they are small and easy to hit i would imagine, thought it couldn't do much damage, but it ran under a ute 🙁 was catching up to it too, SOOO CLOSE!
like the kangaroo (i can't help it cause saturday before last a drunk dude ran towards my 60k car and jumped in front from bout 3 metres away, my passenger (riah) screamed her face off, and i swerved like a nut case... i was pissed off enough i wanted to turn back and run the bastard over!
Seems to be the flavour of the month, freaks and animals on the road... don't bother taking your kids to the zoo these days, just take em for a drive at night.
The flash from the camera hides a pretty big push. Here is a side on shot to show how far back everything has gone. The profile around the headlight bucket would be quite difficult to get right again, and there is a big crease from the air vents to the bottom. Inside is all over the place as well. You never know though. She looks very sad.
She goes in on Tuesday, but I'm getting in early searching for the clip if things go that way. If it is a clip replacement, the story will go in the mag.

I do not like cats either but would never harm an animal.
I think it is something to do with young guys and pussy(cats).
I'm always telling the wife not to swerve when an animal runs in front while she's driving as it's not worth the risk but the buggers always catch you unawares and more times than not you swerve by instinct. Luckily so far I've not caved in any cars but the animal population haven't gone unscaved. So far birds have come off worst, then rabbits (actually 'round here they're hares) and then roos. Would you believe I'm an animal lover (meant in the nicest possible way!)

bummer, if you were doing 100km/h you would have passed the roo before it jumped out :duh

Ha, I thought about that....I might have already been past him...then again it could have been me approaching that startled him to jump.....who knows....
