can you still buy the electric manifold heaters? If so, where and how much. I'm in nsw.

Why

They dont work

Do the sums

Power = Volts x Amps

If V=12 how many amps you going to pull?? 10Amps is a lot.
That will give you a whopping 120 W

I have run a progressive in Sydney without manifold heat without problems.
Fix your stock risers if you can - but save your $$$

you mean like this?

i had that one on the weber of my old 1600 and it was brilliant
i had it on a switch and the difference it made to the running of the car was incredible
i had no preheaters tho they were cut off but even with them there with extractors theyre fairly pointless anyway

forry2000 they arent made anymore trust me i;ve searched high and low for them only thing i can get is the IMDU jacket from UK but they were only for stock manifolds not twin throats

i found they work well and get warm enough to stop icing but not hot enough to cause vapour lock

So im working im making my own ill make a few if im sucessfull

Interesting

Any idea what current you were pulling Joel

For the life of me i cant see them creating enough heat.

Barry, never whacked the tong on it but it had a 16amp fuse and never blew
its like the choke element after bout 20secs or so its to hot to touch
my car was a real pig in winter if i turned it off
liveable in summer but the flat spot when u take off or stomp the gas was a pain and something alot of upright motors seem to suffer from
my old solex even did it till i unclogged the heat risers

Brendan,

The IMDU ( Inlet Manifold De-icing Unit ),suitable for air cooled Buses and Beetles, is a revolutionary product that is sweeping the world. Regardless of whether you suffer from icing or not, the neck of your manifold always runs at a cooler temperature, and will not give optimum performance. The IMDU alleviates this by regulating it's own temperature & uses a current of only 1.8 amps (equivalent to a side-lamp bulb). It fits most 1200cc to 1600cc air-cooled engines in 6v or 12v form as well as an extra-long type for vehicles with twin choke Webers

Joel

yep that is what i am after. I am running a stock solex and i reckon that imdu jacket would do the trick.
