This gets long winded but bear with me.
Friday night #1 son disappears into the night &, because I start work at 4am Saturday, I go to bed with Big Dog. (That's 7.30 for those who don't live in Newcastle)
10.45, #1 son turns up in a blind panic.
His mates car has packed it in at Belmont, he's come home to get the jumper leads & his oil light has come on in his '70 just as he hit town, & there's oil all over the engine bay.
Relax says I, "take my bus, go & sort your mate & I'll worry about your car tomorrow."
1am, there's a ruckus in the carport, DIRECTLY UNDER MY BEDROOM.
The grand plan apparently, was to swap engines with the superbug. The same superbug the very same child crashed on Good Friday. MY SUPERBUG!!
"You would like, perhaps, to put a small wager on that?"
He's been under the impression, that if he stuffed the 1500, he'd get the 1600. Pity he never bothered asking me.
The spare motor is a 1300. You stuff yours, you go smaller.
Now the problem with needing to mix DNA to create a child becomes obvious in this situation.
The Spook way; Put the kettle on, roll a smoke, figure what the most obvious reason for a problem might be, & formulate a plan of attack.
The Damien way; put on a tutu & act like a prima dona.
Didn't quite weed all the weak genes out of that one.
Now I've got it pegged as the oil cooler.
The boy, well, if I'd have let him have the car he wanted instead of making him drive this & rattle, rattle, rattle. Most of it was just a show in front of his mates.
For the record, I didn't stop him buying the v6. I told him if he wanted to go against my express wishes, he leaves my house. He woosed out.
But the crux of the matter was
1) your not stripping one of my cars to fix yours, &
2) you were never doing it at 2am.
I didn't go back to bed. I also didn't touch his car Saturday because i was too tired.
Told him to take the fan housing off & see what he could see.
I get a very sheepish phone call at work on Sunday.
The oil cooler was lose, & take a guess at who put that on.
Got home Sunday arvo to a very humble child.
The only thing I said to him; "after your song & dance Saturday morning, I'll bet you haven't told your mates this is something YOU f#cked up".
He's never likely to.
It's nice to come out on top now & then
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
haha. good show!

It's a learning thing.
I guess teenagers are just a little less scared of their oldies now as to when i was growing up.
Well done with the sarcasim, bet U had to hold your breath a few times during the whole thing.
Keep the steering and the propulsion seperate . Still a Kombi...
It's all good, until it's bad, i suppose
Not so much holding my breath as sitting on my hands.
I did assure him during his little tantrum, that if he thought I wouldn't put him on his arse in front of his mates, he'd be dead wrong. I'm not one of these new age parents.
This is the oldest one at home & 2nd of 5.
The thing to be aware of, while this one is argueing the toss about anything, is the younger ones are taking notes.
The most important note they can take is;
The old man's chain ends here.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
lololol
Like the loonie tunes cartoons with the bulldog and the large painted circle 'Rope Limit'

Good one Spook, my number 1 son wanted a Civic, I recommended a VW as they're "fixable" by me should (when?) it goes wrong, but no he insisted on a Civic which he got (bought by me and the wife of course). First the big exhaust within two weeks of owning it, then the 17" rims, I was guilty of all this when I was his age as well but I lived in London at the time not Noosa. Anyway so far he's had a new radiator, a new water pump ( which to remove has to be seen to be believed, you have to dismantle half the bloody car!), one replacement tyre just because when it got a nail through the tread it protruded into the sidewall and then a replacement wheel and tyre because he hit a pothole that destroyed a rim completely! Luckily my Number 2 wanted a baja which we're putting together at the moment (he's only 15 at the moment) and every so often the eldest and his mates come 'round and check it out and hint at how good it'll be when it's finished and where they'll go in it. Sorry but that's not going to happen. I wonder what number 3 son will want?😉 BTW he's not had the civic a year yet!

It's the same ultimatum my father gave me when I announced I was buying a road bike.
I moved out, & I owned that bike for 27 years.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
I seem to remember a battle with my mother about a missing muffler on my car. And the major drama when I wanted to sell that car and buy an old volkswagen. That and problems regarding a particular gf led to me leaving home (for the first time)
What goes around, comes around. I've got a pubescent daughter who has only just turned 9. She's developing the smart lip at the same rate as the boobs. Its going to be a long battle. Luckily, she's the one and only child. I only have to fight the war on one front.
your story gives me hope spook 🙂 with 5 kids myself and the first turned 13 not long ago the arguments have already started .... elders are always right no matter wat the outcome or argument lol
Oh joy. I got three. All VW mad. 9,8 and 18 months.
Bronze.
Rathmines, Lake Macquarie, NSW.
Nice one. lol

Not a question of right or wrong in my house. This house is not a democracy.
There is only one rule here & it goes;
'Don't f#ck with your father.' I will win. Every time.
As far as being a Vdub nut Steve, the same child talks of getting a VW tattoo when the cars running properly.

Love this... going to use it on my four teenagers....14 ,17 ,19 ,22 yep going to include the 22 year old as she still acts like a teenager.Still got to love them but.The Baja was bought for the eldest boy 19 who passed it back to dad when it was no longer drivable. The eldest Daughter thought she would supprise me will the great trade in deal she got on the perfectly good 69 convertable roadster i purchased for her when she decided at hiundai Gets is a cooler car? Still pissed at that after nearly two years. At least the other two are still sorta keen on the vdubs. there is still hope...He He He

Top attitude - I'd buy you a beer if you were old enough!
Pay your debts, CxxT
Nothing has improved.
His high beam went a couple of weeks ago. Did you check the fuse? says I.
No no, it's the relay was the reply. Fair enough, I'll sort that later.
His interior light has never worked & when I tried to look at it it disintergrated. So I picked one up out of a wreckers. But I couldn't get it to work.
The number plate light hasn't worked since he took the engine lid off to do the oil cooler.
So Sunday I break out the manual I bought for this boy & follow the wiring harness, trying to at least get this newly aquired interior light going .
Second fuse from the right, says I. Sure enough, it's stuffed. Replace that & now everything works.
The bit that pisses me off is I asked if he'd looked at the fuses & he outright bullshitted me.
May get my own back though.
He thinks he got done by a speed camera yesterday. With only one point on his licence after his bingle (not to mention the new P plate laws), he could be in shitters ditch.
My fatherly advice as he was telling me last night.
Get two new tyres for the pushbike.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
I tried that approach in my house Spook but the wife over ruled me:o
What can I say?
Your either running the show from day 1 or your not. 😀
Fact of the matter is my missus doesn't want to override me. When the kids want to argue with her, she hands them the phone.
Now let me tell you, unless the house is burning down, bothering me at work isn't the smartest thing your ever gunna do..
So the minute she gives them the phone, the arguement's over.

Spook, you wouldn't have any posters of you would you, that I could stick on my wall😍
BTW Spook that last one is to be read as funny ha ha not as funny smart arse:thumb
Pictures of me are few & far between. I'm neither the photogenic or sentimental type.
Then, because of my shattered teeth, those I do sit still for, I'm not allowed to smile. So I always look like a miserable prick. 😀

I just read the last 2 pages Spook you had me and my missus in stitches, yet too have kids but when we do i''ll be taken a leaf out of your book, talkin bout books i think you could write one on parenting my Fiancee teaches year 5 in syd these kids are 10 years old and man do they need a kick in the ass!!!
Funny Funny stuff, and to think mu missus want to push one of these out. well i suppose it will be an experience
Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't trade any of them in.
The one most people love about the way I put this particular child in his place was his 16th birthday 18 months ago.
After knocking the question of alcohol on the head, came the question of accommodation.
Because we moved mid way through the year, some were local, others coming from Newcastle.
Easy, locals go home no later than 1am, tourists can camp. Boys out the back in tents, girls inside under lock & key.
"That's not fair!!"
It's fair.
Now, this child won't come bitching to me, but his mother is a different story.
So the story goes, one of the comments in his whining to his mother that 16 was the age of consent.
Uh huh.
So I trots down to his room & put this to him.
"Well it is!"
Fair enough, I'll tell you what we'll do. I'll take you round to see the respective fathers of the girls your inviting, & you explain that theory to them.
I'll pick you up off the lawn each time. Because they're gunna f#cken flatten you as quick as I would.
Needless to say I won that one too.
